The 2014 Toyota Corolla Gets MUCH Sportier, All-New Look — Will It Suffer The SAME Fate As The Dodge Dart?
If you have had the chance to scope out the all-new, 2014 Toyota Corolla probably the first thing you'll notice is its much more spiffed up look. Considering the Corolla has — frankly — never looked attractive, this is a huge development.

And while the stock car looks good, in my eyes, the "S" model looks really presentable. While past Corolla's looked more reserved for your grandmother, the new car looks like something I'd expect out of Kia or Toyota's other marque, Scion. It has a nice, hip look to it.

Here's the thing though: Toyota's more conservative models have always done blockbuster numbers. Is it taking a BIG risk by making a more edgy product?

The reason I ask this is because of, you guessed it, the Dodge Dart.

It's one of the best looking vehicles in its class and has a great sounding motor. It could be a bit faster but so could they all. And that vehicle is REALLY lagging behind the competition when it comes to sales.

What say you, Spies? Will the Corolla suffer the SAME fate as the Dodge Dart OR will it be a runaway success?

The problem with the Corolla is that, if you time your purchase right, you can get a Camry(assuming you want to buy a Toyota product) for a few grand more.

Personally it does nothing for me, but that green is terrible!

Dodge's failure with the Dart is not because of aggressive looks, so the comparison does not hold. Corolla will sell as many as always because it is a Corolla. And it may even sell a FEW more with sporty looks.

I also disagree that every Corolla has been unattractive. Some of the 80s ones were real lookers (for the conmpact class).

The question is this. How many people are actually looking at a Dart and taking it for a test drive? There are 2 possibilites why the Dart is not selling all that well.
1)There are not enough people walking in to test drive one. If that's the case than there is a marketing problem.
2) After test driving the Dart people are not buying them.
If thats the case than it's a problem with the engine and transmission performance.
I have read that the dual clutch is very jerky and the turbo 4 cylinder from the Abarth is not torqy enough to over come the excess weight. The only other choice is the 2.0 4 cylinder. The tranny is smoother but it is very underpowered for it's weight. Further complaints center on the plastics in the interior being very cheap looking and lumpy seats. The engine tranny situation should be rectified when the 2.4 engine comes out. Once it trickles down to all models it should greatly address these issue and may improve sales.

The Corolla isn't noticeably faster than the Dart (if at all). You are talking as if the Corolla is some sort of performer. It isn’t. Also, the Corolla's interior isn't rich looking.
