NHTSA Discovers That 551,000 Aging Pontiacs Might Have Issues
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it is upgrading an investigation into 551,511 2005-06 Pontiac G6 cars because the brake lights may malfunction.

The auto safety agency has been investigating the issue since February after reviewing hundreds of reports that the brake lights may malfunction, resulting in reversed operation. The brake lights may activate without depressing the brake pedal and/or turn off when the brake pedal is depressed. NHTSA has now upgraded its investigation into an engineering analysis. At the end of the analysis, it can formally ask an automaker to recall vehicles it believes are unsafe.
