Dead In The Water? Chevrolet Bumps Total Incentives To $12,500 To Entice Volt Sales

General Motors Co. is boosting incentives on its plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt to help reduce inventory that has swelled to more than 4.5 months, and as it prepares to start production on the 2014 model.

Chevrolet spokeswoman Michelle Malcho on Monday said GM has a 140-day supply of the Chevy Volt. That’s more than double the supply analysts say is healthy.

The Detroit automaker is offering $5,000 off 2012 Volts and $4,000 off 2013 Volts, Malcho said. The deals lower the price of the Volt from its suggested retail price of $39,995; buyers also can qualify for up to $7,500 in federal income tax credits.

Perhaps I'm not looking at the right place but I hardly see advertisement or marketing for the Volt. I see a ton more for Prius and even the Leaf, and quite a bit for the Ford hybrid/electric vehicles (magazines, the internet, TV commercial, etc.). Is it just me or is GM not interested in promoting their electric/hybrid vehicles?

Chevy appears to have one foot in and the other out on the Volt. A guarantee to kill it.

They have really botched this one, but just don't realize it yet.

The interesting thing is that, last I heard, the Volt outsold the Leaf. The Prius is a range of cars, not an individual vehicle, so unless you choose a particular model of vehicle, I don’t think of it as competition, per se. It’s like Apple, who produces one phone, the iPhone versus Samsung, who produces a whole line of phones (which is interesting, considering that the iPhone is doing really, really well despite the outside competition.

Chevrolet needs to publicly reveal exactly how much it has spent PER VOLT.

Meanwhile, I JUST LOVE giving my neighbor $12,500 dollars so he can roll around in a luxury EV while I penny-pinch in my Hyundai.

I'm sure our neighbor who rides a bike loves subsidizing your gas purchases to the tune of 10's of Billions a year. But hey, enjoy your glass house.
