VIDEO: The 2014 BMW 4-Series Debuts IN MOTION And With Design Commentary
Yesterday was the day. The 2014 BMW 4-Series coupe was born. Not only does this mark an all-new nomenclature that will likely become historical for BMW, it also means that the 3-Series finally gets its sportier sibling.

It also shows us what the next M3...er...M4 will be based on.

Right now I have reserved complete and utter judgment on the vehicle. I'll have to see it in the flesh. Some bits I am happy with, others much less so. There seems to be a bit of flow to the design and then there are some really peculiar angles.

Remember how everyone jumped on the Lexus IS-F when it first debuted for its "dolphin nose?" Well, if don't see that the new 4-Series is sporting that look as well, you'd have to be completely blind.

Providing more detail on what is likely to be one of the most popular BMW products, check out the two videos below. One has some design commentary on the exterior and outside, the other is simply the new 4'er in motion.

Power, sportiness and a breathtaking design. Have a look at the BMW 4 Series Coupé. Find out more about the exterior and interior design.

Design. If you have to explain it (as BMW has been doing since Bangle), you've failed.

The 4 Series is BMW's copy of Audi's A5/S5/RS5 model line and strategy being separated from the A4/S4/RS4 model. After 6 years of dreaming about one upping Audi, you'd think that BMW would have been able to come out with a better designed and higher performance 4 Series.

The BMW 435i is close to the Audi S5 in pricing. Yet the current S5 accelerates to 100 km/h faster than the 435i xDrive: the S5 with S tronic dual-clutch transmission gives 4.7 seconds while the manual transmission gives 4.9 seconds.

The next generation Audi S5/A5 will be out in 1 to 2 years: it can be expected to be substantially lighter, slightly faster and drive much better than this current S5/A5 (in 2009, Audi revealed it was testing an S5 prototype that was 880 pounds lighter than the current S5).

This new A5/S5 should outdo the new 4 series in almost every way -- and almost certainly the next Audi A5/S5 will look more attractive than this BMW 4 Series.

The new Audi A3 sedan/hatchback has been getting rave reviews from Germany's car mags for its lightness, agility and performance... so it's likely Audi will continue that momentum in the next A5, S5, RS5.
