Nice update, and YES Mini should stand up and take notice.

Yes-I second that. The Fiat rides better than the Mini but does not handle as well. It offers more interior space and cargo area. It offers usperior visability. It has a more powerful standard engine and it a lot cheaper than the Countryman S.Interior qulity may be better in the Mini but not by much.

too bad the reviews point out poor seats and I have seen reports of 3 star crash ratings and likely to see poor resale, but yes MINI needs competition but not likely to be too fearful of these POS's

CarCrazedinCali-Your right one review did point poor seats in the 500L. Yes the L does not handle as well as a Countryman. However the L will be a lot more easy to live with as it's ride does not disintegrate over poor roads. Further you can see easily out of the L. If you've ever sat in a Countryman you will notice poor rear view visability. The 3 star crash ratings is for the 500 city car, not the 500 L. Thing is if you get hit by a semi in one of these things as well as a Mini what do you think the outcome will be. It would probably be instant death for the Fiat and a day and a half of life support with permananet brain damge for the Mini. Wow-what a choice! You keep saying that Fiat's are POS's but have you driven one? You might be surprised. Now lets look at sales figures. Up until the launch of the 500 L Fiat has been dealing only with one body style. How many body styles does Mini have. Let's see there is the 3dr hatch, Convertable,Roadster,Coupe, Clubman, Countryman, and Paceman. So up until now Mini has had 7 different body styles to Fiat's one. You could call the Cabrio a different body style but that would be stretching it.Mini is only about 11,000 sales ahead of Fiat mid yr.So now then add on the average number of options that the average person would want. On average you are paying 5 to 6 grand more for a Mini. Maybe people are getting wize to the fact that they are just a "tad" overpriced for it's size. Well I guess let's hear it for those Italian POS's while they cut into Mini's sales.
