What can help GM?

GM: Lower prices, raise quality, better designs, much better interiors, stiffer ride, more features, more safety..... the list goes on..

Raise a white flag on top of their corporate building.

GPS on more vehicles would definately help, but it needs to be no more than about 1000-1200 USD. I can go get an in-dash mounted pioneer touchscreen GPS unit from BestBuy for like 700 USD. Another thing that needs to be standard for GM are side curtain airbags. Ford just made this standard on the Fusion and I think on most other models. In the case of the G6, Grand Prix, Impala, Fusion, Charger, etc, the domestics should gauge themselves against not only toyota and honda, but Hyundai.

GM definitely needs to add more content to their cars and lower prices. Nav systems are a good start, but there is much more to be done here. At this rate, they are going to be playing catch-up to the Koreans.

And keep some classic names! I mean, Buick Lucerne? That sounds like a prescription sleep-aid. It's OK to draw from the past as long as you don't live in it. GM's storied history is about all its got going for it now.
Pontiac Catalina sounds a whole lot better than G8.

You could be right efox. Thats why BMW's are more prestige over some rebaged VW's. But thats not even tha piont. Like I always say, dont hate...appreciate.

Do you have to infect the whole site with this Audi vs. BMW vs. whatever crap?

GM should know how they are positioned against their competitors from different measuring points. With this understanding they should employ strategies to maintain that position while they figure out and execute new strategies to enter or expand in a targeted market. Econ 101 or something like that but GM needs to execute better about things they already know about. Also some old structures may be in the way of a GM transformation. Much has already been written about ways to turn around GM's current situation. And time is ticking.

and it seems to me that only gm america is suffering, vauxhall, opel have good sales in europe, saab isn't really strugglng here, holden seems to be doing fine in Oz, and buick is cleaning up in china (if vw doesn't steal their crown)
i reckon gm should sell some of the brands (the useless ones, buick, pontiac, saturn) so then it can properly develop the other lines without fear of damaging it's own sales.
sell buick to daimler chrysler, pontiac to bmw, saturn to vw.
then buick can become an upmarket brand to rival cadillac and lincoln,(but still fit below m-b) pontiac a drivers car 9but again cheaper than bmw), and saturn a modern look at cars (the saturn ecoracer could be a possibility)

trouble is, then gm has a lot more rivals, in the form of its old own brands.
my idea could work, if anyone wants to buy buick, pontiac and saturn.
does anyone know who owns the rights to dusenburg or packard?
vw could buy dusenburg and make a proper limo (to rival r-r and maybach), so bentley can become the drivers car it should be (it might make a more luxurious slr type thing), and then bentley could be raised a bit more upmarket, packard could fit just below it (and above audi) and do expensive, smaller cars, like an a6 based convertible, that costs more than an a8, less than a conti gtc.
audi could focus on handling, packard on ride and luxury, bentley on handling with luxury, and dusenburg with ultimate luxury
there could be 5 tier vw group.
vw, audi, packard, bentley, duesenburg.
that would be a force to be reckoned with, m-b and bmw would be a bit shocked.
