EXTREME Honda Makeover: The All-New Accord Hybrid Gets Some Mugen Love — Is It AWESOME Or AWFUL?

EXTREME Honda Makeover: The All-New Accord Hybrid Gets Some Mugen Love — Is It AWESOME Or AWFUL?
If there's one thing Honda has going for itself right now, it's the brand's loyal customers. These people LOVE the H-train. And when you have a strong following like that, enthusiasts are not too far behind.

One of the company's most legendary tuners is an outfit called Mugen. You may remember them for creating a styling package for the Honda Civic Si that didn't actually provide any performance gains but bubbled the Civic's cost upwards of $30,000.

Now the tuner is showing off just what it can do with its imagination and an Accord Hybrid.

From what we can see in this series of images, it's clear the vehicle is sporting an aerodynamics kit that gives it an all-new front valence, front grille insert, side skirts, rear decklid spoiler and a modified rear valence. In addition there's a set of 19-inch wheels and a sport suspension.

While I think anyone should carefully consider who would actually do this to their Accord, another thing to consider is how much all this gear will cost — we don't know yet.

But we can judge, that's for sure! That said, is this Mugen Accord Hybrid AWESOME or AWFUL?

Awful. Considerably worse than a regular Accord. Although maybe the hybrid's fascia is hurting it from the get-go.

This is the Accord Hybrid Plug-in. The Accord Hybrid's starts with a cleaner design (thank goodness). The Plug-in's snout looks like a beard and moustache and this gawdy take by Mugen doesn't help.

Where is the round door that should be on the front fender if this is the plug-in?

I just saw online, non-US hybrids get the plug-in's "interesting" front-end - so this must be a non-US hybrid

Not a pretty face, to my eyes.

Japanese auto designers don't have a clue as to what looks good and what's positively horrible. Time after time, such contrived and over wrought designs!
