Volkswagen To Introduce High Performance Based Diesel Golf In 2015
Volkswagen plans to broaden its diesel lineup in 2015 with the Golf GTD, the brand's first performance-oriented diesel car for the United States.

The GTD, available as a two- and four-door hatchback, borrows the sports suspension from the gasoline-powered Golf GTI. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder rated at 184 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque.

VW says the car will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds and achieve more than 40 mpg on the highway.

"0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds" wow this must be the 1990 kind of "high performance."

Name another car in that price range (<$30k) that gets 40-50mpg and 0-60 in about 7 seconds.

Didn't think so....

VW understates their performance like the other German manufacturers. If they say about 7, it will be more along the lines of a little over 6. Want more performance? Pretty, sure APR/Stasis/ABT etc will develop chips to bring it around 5 seconds. Plus, fuel economy in the 40-50 mpg range and the GTI suspension and also a fun dual clutch gearbox in this segment, plus the fact that it has the most usable rear seats and cargo area I have ever seen in a coupe of this size. What more do you want?
