wow...that's a profound jump in sales volume. 3-series doing particularly well at over 10,000 units considering that current model coupes and convertibles are all but gone. 5-series sales also holding up well at over 4400 units. not bad for a 3-year old model.

Refreshed 5 with diesel option will be on sale soon, along with the new X5, 4 series, and 2 series later in the year.

...and yet when people rag on Audi's success based on primarily selling A1 and A3s (despite the Q5, A4 and A6 all selling MORE)it is a bad thing, but when BMW sells alot of base models over more expensive ones...that's better?

BMW's bizarre chase of every possible niche. Is it a car? Then why is it an X model?

All the Audi fanboys have to chime in lol. @amg the A1 starts at less than a mini, the x1 is a 1 series SUV priced comparably to other cars in the segment like the cla, a3,q3, evoque.

It will be very interesting to see the level of discounting BMW is using to move volume. We'll see the full effect of any discounting in BMW's Quarterly Report for Q2 2013, which will be out at the end of this month or in early August.

Bmw has actually raised prices on many models, but anyway Audi offers discounts as well, go to Audi USA and checkout these current offers- No first lease payment or security deposit required on select model year 2013 and 2014 allroad, A4, S4, A5, S5, A6, & A8 models. Or Audi offed $1000 toward an A4 $1500 toward an A5/s5', or $3000 toward an a8 if you switch over from a BMW, Lexus, or Mercedes.

prices are up across the board. and BMW remains among the most profitable auto makers on earth. don't expect that to change soon.

Looks like all those 4 cylinders are paying off handsomely for BMW!

haha! And like AMG said above, and here people were bagging on A4s for being very non-luxury because of a 4 cylinder engine!

turbos and 4-cylinders engines are the ONLY way luxury makers can go. it's being driven NOT by the brand or consumers, it's being driven my the US government's CAFE standards. this is government policy in action--nothing more, nothing less.

Question: I'd like a straight answer without the sarcasm please. I presently drive an Audi (and have owned 3 great BMWs in the past).I was in a BMW dealership when they had this "Drive for BMW" where you earn $1000 toward any new vehicle you buy. The wife was interested in the X3 or 3 series. We took both of them for a test drive. Does anybody else not see the high usage of what looks like cheap plastics in those two vehicles. Around the console areas and door panels, I was totally disappointed. I guess it was obvious since I was touching all the materials (while riding in the backseat). The salesman even apologized in his office saying, "BMW has really taken a huge step to up the quality of the interior materials used. I know these vehicles will be receiving the same changes as the new 4 coupe". I'm well aware that 4 series car cost more, but the others shouldn't feel like cheap plastic inside a $45-$60K vehicles.

Has anyone else REALLY taken a CLOSE look at the interior. I really like my new Audi 6er and the craftsmanship, feel and quality of the interior materials used are outstanding. We weren't going to step up to a 5 series BMW just to get the craftsmanship that should be across the board on ALL BMWs regardless of which model you are interested in. (I'm not talking engine HP here now either; just interior materials). For me personally, their a lot more than just a fine engine. If I'm going to be riding a bunch in the car, it better have an outstanding fit n finish. Finally, call your local BMW dealers and tell them to rid ALL vehicles of those crappy run flat tires too They cost MORE to replace; get less mileage out of them and ride rougher evident on the test drive too.

gkearns56 you hit the nail on the head. My wife's Jetta wagon lease was over and she wanted a Tiguan. Easy to park, good gas milage, and better visibility. I was surprised how good the Toureg interior and overall fit and finish looked. The interior feel, switch gear, knobs, use of chrome and wood etc. was excellent. Test drove one and compared to my 2012 X5 with run flats, the Toureg won me over. Very nice auto. BMW needs to work on the interior air vents material and use more metal surrounds around the switches. I have owned 5 BMW's so I understand your post.

It looks like BMW has resorted to HUGE discounting for its 6-series and 7-series models:

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/10-best-new-car-deals-for-may-230531303.html?page=all

1. BMW 6 Series

Deal: $5,000 marketing support (plus $2,000 to USAA members) and 1.9 percent financing to 72 months. The hot BMW 6 Series coupe/convertible and the line’s recently added four-door offshoot, the Gran Coupe (pictured here), carry the biggest-money deals this month. Fuel economy fans can choose a 6 Series that comes powered by a 3.0-liter 315-horsepower six-cylinder engine, but the car really comes to life when powered by a 4.4-liter V8 that generates a quicker 445 horses. Handling is sufficiently sporty, with an array of advanced chassis control systems on hand (with all-wheel-drive available on top models) to help the car maintain its poise in even the most demanding situations.

6. BMW 7 Series

Deal: $3,000 cash (plus $2,000 to USAA members) and 3.05 percent financing to 72 months. USAA members in particular can avail themselves of a great deal on one of the best big luxury sedans in the industry. The 7 Series continues to deliver ample luxury with energetic overall performance and an exhaustive array of high-tech features in several six-, eight- and 12-cylinder model variations, including a modestly fuel-efficient – though costly – hybrid version.

This will clearly lower BMW's profit margin for Q2 2013. As it stands, BMW's profit margin of 9% is already lower than Audi's 11.1% figure.

these 'discounts' are a bit of a ruse. bmw MSRPs are notably higher than the competition. so the 'discounts' are a bit of a joke.

and MSRPs are seriously up. take the new X5 for example...the 2014 base price is up $7000. those are massive increases.

what matters is NET selling price. and, in that department, BMW selling prices make many competitors look positively cost effective.
