Is there really a market for $100,000+ electric cars? There is, provided deposits for the first allocation of Tesla Motors’ Roadster are anything to go by.

According to reports, Martin Eberhard, the nascent eco-automaker’s CEO, the first batch of 100 cars has already been spoken for. Tesla apparently already had a head start, mind. Prior to the car’s official unveiling on July 19 in California, 37 parties had already signed over $100,000 deposits for the buying rights to the Lotus-produced sports car, including investors like Google magnates Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
