Escape Hybrid vs. Liberty Diesel

I've heard somewhere that Liberty with diesel engine is already planned to be shut off.
Second of all, personally, I would opt for diesel engine any day. It's well proven for over a century now. Its development has undergone a very advance stage; some of the newer diesel engine can boost up a lot of power (in addition to the obvious torque), and much quieter too. Moreover, it’s practically a maintenance-free engine. With the advantage of the fuel economy and the well proven durability that the diesel has, I believe diesel is the real answer for this unbelievable high gas price.

The diesel in the Liberty is far from being very good, it is actually very bad compared to others, it also doesn't get the best fuel economy. Also, what is the point of teh Escape Hybrid, it doesn't have anymore room than a compact and gets worse fuel econmy, but no the EPA gives it tax cuts.

Also, any car can tow 1,000 pounds.

This is dead anyways since the Liberty Diesel is already off the market. Jeep is going to redo the engine and most likely put it in a verison of the Grand Cherokee.

jeep already has a diesel grand cherokee, it is merc's 320 cdi.
this engine is dead and will be replaced by a merc sourced or vw sourced engine

R - No they don't. At least not over here in the states. It's going to be near a year or so before they get anything out over here.

The GL 320 CDI should come for the 2007 model year, but probably only as a 45 state engine.

the old jeep diesels (they're not very refined) will be replaced by merc-sourced or vw sourced engines (since chrysler is working with vw on the voyager)

good comparison. People love to compare hybrids to diesels, but usually i hear ridiculous comparisons of prius (midsize) vs jetta (compact). Usually something along the lines of a "a TDI Jetta gets almost as good mileage as a Prius, and its cheaper." Nice to see a more realistic comparison, and in almost every metric, the hybrid is superior. Nice job Ford.

You are dumb, sorry. The Prius is a midsize only because it has a high roof. The Jetta probably has more knee, leg, shoulder, and anything else that people actually use. Cubic feet are a very bad way of mesuring space that is actually used.

Rupert...thanks for the heads up. Using the MB engine sounds much more logical.

this jeep isn't a very good diesel, so i think if one compared it to a modern one (say an x3 2.0d, is that the right size?)
the x3 would come out on top.
