CAR WARS! SPIED On The STREET — 2014 Infiniti Q50 vs. 2014 Lexus IS350
I have a feeling 2014 is going to be a good year for cars. Not only will we have a plethora of eco-friendly offerings, there will also be plenty of hardcore sports cars to balance the load. In addition, we'll have traditional players circling back as all-new models.
Two of them are the all-new Infiniti Q50 and all-new Lexus IS. Both vehicles are the best answers to the German three: Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Aside from the driving dynamics though — the IS has received A LOT of positive commentary while the last-gen Infiniti edged out the BMW — both the Infiniti and Lexus are very edgy looking. Infiniti is taking it's new "face" and applying it across its lineup and Lexus' IS is easily the most interesting design from the brand yet.
At the end of the day though we think buyers are going to come down to two pools. One shopping for German autos and one shopping for a Japanese-made vehicle.
So,
WHICH wins in the battle of the Infiniti and Lexus?
Weigh in and let us know!

The last generation Lexus IS250/350 that came out in 2006 was the best looking car in it class but now I think the new G37 or Q50 is the best looking car in it class. And the Infinity Q50/Q50 S/Q50 Hybrid is probably more fun drive then the Lexus IS250/350 for sure.

I liked the Q50's external design when I saw it at an auto show in March -- it wasn't on my radar (I didn't even realize that Infiniti would be re-numbering their cars or replacing the G37). The Q50 was one of only two or three cars that caught my eye at that auto show (and that included the supercar exhibits) -- and I'm interested to see how the Q50 hybrid performs. The Q50's design looks better and more fluid in real life than in photos. I couldn't see the interior because the car was on a moving pedestal and the interior was locked and off limits.
On the other hand, the Lexus IS350 looks slightly better in photos than it does in real life. I love car designs that tend to be edgy like the Lexus LFA and concept LF-LC also being exhibited -- a similar style in those ars came together very nicely. But I thought the Lexus headlights and front grille could have been improved, and the car looks smaller than the Q50. Which is a shame because the IS350 could have been a stunning looking car, best in its class with a few design tweaks.
This was the Lexus LF-LC I saw at the autoshow. This should have been the headlights and grille for the IS350 -- instead of the IS350's silly headlamps and grille mesh.

I have no doubt that both cars are very good, but design-wise, they are awful! Both look awkward and reasonably good, depending on the angle taken. To each his own, they're not my cup of tea.

I have a '07 G35 and there is a family resemblance with the Q50, but I think they made the exterior too busy. Still, it's not bad, especially the interior. However, the Lexus is very odd looking. For one the wheels are way too small! Then there is that grill and the crease that follows from the tail lights... All it does is accent the joint between the body and bumper facia. I wish the vehicle designers would stay with the engineering process that turns their concept into metal and plastic.. Maybe all cars would look better.

G/Q looks a little better but still horrible. Lexi just bad, bad. The face remind me of transformers for sure. I can't believe people waited 7 years for this!
What is with Japanese designs theses days. Everything looks just wired. Honest truth.
