BS Tickets: 00R Gets Written Up For A "Noisy Muffler" — Can Anyone Top THAT?

BS Tickets: 00R Gets Written Up For A
Unfortunately, I have had some run ins with the law. Speeding and what not. Then again, who hasn't?

If you're into cars likely there's a good chance you probably enjoy speed to some extent, and if I were a betting man I'd wager there's a correlation between folks who modify their cars and how much they drive over the speed limit.

I don't mind getting busted for those tickets. I know I was in the wrong. However, I DO mind getting tickets for something like this.

In the great state of New Jersey where I call home I got pulled over this morning in my hometown for having a "noisy muffler."

The vehicle in question is a 2012 Volkswagen Golf with an AWE Tuning cat-back exhaust. It meets the U.S. Department of Transportation's regulations and it doesn't have any cutouts or bypasses in there. It's just a cat-back exhaust.

The officer didn't use a decibel meter to test the noise level and it's purely a subjective thing.

So, what now? FIGHT it or let it go?

On top of that, I am curious:

Have ANY of you been written up for something as ridiculous as this?

I see.

It's not a fix-it ticket. Just a "I am going to annoy you" ticket. ;)

Jeebus, 001 doesn't pay you enough to at least get a proper GTI with all of the quality posts your provide. WTF? Also, wtf is up with the stickers?

No clue as it's a stock photo, essentially.

And I actually picked the Golf out for a variety of specific reasons. Personally, I hate the GTI.

What could you possibly hate about the GTI?

You rebel you. Always have to push those legal boundaries!

The DB meter is the way to go especially if you know what is allowed in your area.

Yes...I was ticketed here in downtown Houston for 'unreasonably loud music coming from my car' Which was bullshit and I told the cop to be at the court house because I'm fighting it. No decibel meter was used. At the time I had an RX8 with 1 10" sub - the music wasn't up loud because I was talking with my buddy in the car when we passed the cop. The windows were down. He never turned the ticket in.

Fight it. If Harley Davidson's can roam the streets and scare the shit out of house pets two miles away, you should be able to get a pass. I've had my run-ins with the bacon in blue over my tints.

The law in Minnesota: "169.69 MUFFLER. - Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order which blends the exhaust noise into the overall vehicle noise and is in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a street or highway. The exhaust system shall not emit or produce a sharp popping or crackling sound. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with such parts and equipment so arranged and kept in such state of repair as to prevent carbon monoxide gas from entering the interior of the vehicle."

Nothing about decibels. As per a judge at my last hearing, "It's completely officer's discretion." So yeah, I've donated to the state several times.

You told us nothing about the ticket amount...
On the other side, try to avoid that nasty little town called Giddings Texas, where you risk being ticketed as a means to grab money for the lousy town. I was ticketed arguing overspeeding, and when I requested to see my alleged speed the cop said "it's in the Radar" but was unable to show me any data. As I was travelling at night from Austin to Houston and had to catch my plane I was unable to go to court, and what the menacing cop really achieved, was a very illustrating understanding of present day american honesty and practices. The slogan on the patrol car that reads: "To Protect and Serve" should include a few missing words, ie: "to protect(our deep pockets)and serve(our private interests)"
