Should BMW Make A Successor To The Z4?
The premium roadster segment has been struggling for years and the BMW Z4 sales along with those from Mercedes-Benz SLK have been relatively low to the overall expectations. Despite a very-well received design and ride quality, the Z4 sales worldwide totaled 15,249 units in 2012.

In an interview with Auto Zeiting, BMW boss Norbert Reithofer makes an interesting reference to the Z4 and the possibility of having a successor. “”If the Z4 has a successor, it could be part of a new sports car architecture from BMW, ” said Reithofer in the same interview that also touches on the rumored BMW – Toyota sportscar.

The price has inflated too much. At the same price, most rather have the flexibility on of the 3 series sized convertible - more trunk, more seats, etc. They also do not refresh as often, showing their age towards the end of the cycle.

The Z4 is a wonderful asset to the BMW lineup of fine autos. It is their only genuine sports car now in production. It also gives BMW a competent competitor against the fine MB SLK.

BMW has evolved the Z car to a formidable level. They should continue developing this attractive sports car which sells at an affordable price.

They really needed to do a purist M car variant. Enthusiast often are sought out when others are buying cars and they get excited about models that are good... and that have a really hot version they would buy. I understand this was developed to appeal to everyone but the hot version would not necessarily have inflated sales by itself but the side effects would have been increased sales overall. all IMHO of course.

Well, my 2006 M-roadster is a hoot and since they really haven't made a Z4 that equals it, perhaps they should give up the effort? It is more of a ladies car (not that there is anything wrong with that) so even in 35is form, it can't compete with the SLK AMG. I ask myself why BMW has lost its heart, sales and profits seem to be the driving forces behind the mark now.

Yes! The world needs more sports cars and less CUV's.

The current Z4 is a poseur's car. BMW needs a major rethink before building a new version...is it going to be an ultimate driving machine equal to a Boxster S in every regard ? If not do not build it !
