SPY PHOTO: BMW developing hot new X1 SAV?

BMW has obviously done its homework, developing a platform that is dynamic enough to be used for all sorts of vehicles, because spinning off all these niche models is a costly exercise.

BMW is also aided by a customer base that would buy anything with a propeller badge on the steering wheel.

If only other manufacturer's customer base were so easy to please....

please no.......they are going to cheapen the brand to the point where anybody can afford one and it's not going to be considered premium anymore. I hope this is a rumor.

WHy does BMW need something smaller than the X3? It is already tight inside of that thing...usless cargo area and all in it...How SMALL will this be? As far as cheapening the brand, I don't think it would do that...BMWs are all over the roads in Europe, and its image is the same...and they even have many models with HUBCAPS!! WHich I am sure Americans would just die at that idea...

yes indeedy. the 116 and 118 get hubs as standard, alloys are an option.
i think SE spec gets them though on most cars.
audis have hubs too on the a4, a3 and perhaps a6, m-b on the a, c and b class.
europeans must earn more or something, as cars are more expensive here, the 116i here is probably about the same as a 120i in the US.
a 116i (absolute scraping bottom of barrel base model) is 29000 dollars.
318i is 36000, 520d is 46000, x3 2.0i is 45000, a 730d is 86500. (all in dollars, all cheapest model available)

and there is nothing exclusive about having a german car, every insurance salesman from luton has a 3 series.
people understand the difference between a 318 and a 330, so a 318 doesn't look out of place in barry the insurance salesman from luton's driveway, a 330 (touring has more cred) fits in fine in kensington.

I'm not sure what BMW wouldn't sell well. Considering BMs track record and forget about it in the USA which is by far the easiest market. Seems to me based on the numbers since the Q7 has been available in the USA and worldwide for that matter, the X5 is still outselling the Q7 tremendously. I have a rule and it goes like this; you can fool people some of the time but not of the time. BMW produces a good product and that is why BMW has the highest customer retention/lowest customer attrition in the automotive industry. If anyone disagrees the sales numbers detailing that BMW wasn't in the leadership position twenty years ago and now are demonstartes that. This doesn't mean that BM can't put a foot wrong it just means that they hardly do and it's very unlikely. Regarding BMWs "ugly cars" which is an opinion, many other Manufacturers must be betting on BMs "ugly" design themes as many of them are adopting it such as the S Class, Acura's RL, Toyota Camry, and many others. How many companies copied the I-Drive concept....but that's another story.
