Here is my problem with this. Fiat has RWD platforms with the 300, Charger etc. It has FWD platforms with Dodge Dart(an Alfa Giulietta).Audi has competed for yrs against BMW, Mercedes, now Jaguar and also Porsche by offering either FWd or AWD.BMW and Mercedes have decided to go FWD AWD with their smaller platforms. If Alfa is going to be delayed again than I suspect that Marchionne really wants to sell it rather then simply not proceed with it. So far Fiat is sharing the cost to develop the Spider with Mazda and not making a huge investment on the 4C. So the main bread and butter could be easily sold off. Those models will sell in the US without a huge investment. The 4 cylinder engines are a derivative of the Current 1.4 Multiair engine that Fiat is producing in the US for the Dart and the 500. So unless Marchionne is going to pull the trigger on the FWD/AWD platform readily available and develope the RWD platform from the 300 series he must be considering selling Alfa. Why not put a vehicle out in the US market to make money(USA/Canada, Brasil, and China are the most viable markets right now and develop the RWD for the next go around of the Giulia. That would be Alfa's bread and butter car. If the talk is true then there has been no R & D on this as of yet. One would figure another 3 to 4 yr delay. This does not make sense. If Alfa is sold to VAg it is easy to discontinued the 4C and substitute a VAG engine in the upcoming Spideror borrow a Mazda engine if necessary until a a VAG engine would be ready.
