2014 BMW 328d EPA Rated at 45 MPG Highway
The 2014 BMW 328d was unveiled at this year's New York auto show where the automaker said fuel economy for the diesel-powered 3 Series "could well exceed 40 mpg." Now, it appears BMW achieved that goal following official EPA ratings for the 2014 328d. As previously reported, the 328d is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4 (180 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque) mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The rear-drive sedan is EPA rated at 32/45 mpg city/highway and the 328d xDrive all-wheel drive (both the sedan and sports wagon) returns 31/43 mpg city/highway. BMW provided an estimated 0-60 mph time of about 7 seconds, a stretch from the 5.8 seconds we achieved in our long-term 2009 BMW 335d with the inline-six turbo diesel powerplant. That oil-burning BMW, however, was EPA rated at 23/36 mpg city/highway. Click here for our initial driving impressions of the 328d: 2014 BMW 328d Quick Drive Technical director Frank Markus took a quick spin in the 2014 328d and noted that the new sedan "seems to strike a better balance between performance and fuel economy." With 280 lb-ft of torque, the 328d had no issue "merging smartly with freeway traffic or easily jumping ahead of a line of dawdlers for the right-hand-turn lane," Markus noted. The 2014 BMW 328d is expected to go on sale soon. Expect official pricing news to arrive shortly. Source: EPA

Let's see, the BMW 328d does 0-60 in 7 seconds and gets 32/45 mpg and the Lexus IS 250 (according to Lexus website) does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and gets 21/30 mpg's, Makes you wonder if Lexus's is even trying with the IS 250.

actually the IS350 is only performance in the 5.7 range. The diesel will most likely be in the 6.5 to 6.7 range. A second slower and gets almost 20 mpg better.

I would love to get a 3-series diesel. I figured out that I could fill up 1x a month. 13 mpg above the current 4 cyl 328 is a lot. Compare it to everything in the segment and you are talking almost 15 to 16 mpg better. That is ALOT. 240 miles to a tank of gas on average. If you drive 1500 miles a month, you would fill up 2.2x vs 4x a month. That is at least going to save you almost $80 a month.

BMW is always conservative with their numbers, I expect it to be in the 6 second range - Faster than the IS250, G25, ILX,TSX, CLA, C250 and pretty much in line with the TL, ES350, C350, A4 etc. IMPRESSIVE!

Not that tough to figure why BMW dominates the list of Best Engines almost every year.
Now, just lose that Electric Power Steering BMW.
