Audi Keeps The Pressure Up With An 11.6% Jump In July Sales
Audi today reported July 2013 sales of 13,064 vehicles, an 11.6% increase over the previous July record set last year. July also stands as the brand’s 31st consecutive month of record sales. Audi sales YTD increased 13.6% to 87,341 vehicles sold.

“Audi is off to a solid start for the second half of the year,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “We expect the momentum to continue through the fall with the launch of three new clean diesel models, the Audi A6 TDI, Audi A7 TDI and Audi Q5 TDI, as well as two stunning high-performance vehicles, the Audi RS7 and Audi SQ5.”

July results were bolstered by sales of Audi luxury SUVs, with the Audi Q7 posting a 49.0% gain in July with 1,328 units delivered for the month. Sales of the Audi Q5 luxury crossover increased 52.0% to 3,176 vehicles sold for the month. Year-to-date sales for the Audi Q7 increased 48.1% while sales for the Audi Q5 increased 37.4%.

Weird, I thought the cheap A1 and A3 accounted for the overwhelming majority of Audi sales?? Oh that's right, that idiocy is only spouted on this site.

A1 is not sold in the US and A3 is being replaced which may be why Audi trails its German rivals in the US, if you are discussing global numbers the mentioned models move significant volume.

Audi's upcoming 2015 A3 sedan, which will be on sale in the United States in Q1 of 2014, will significantly increase Audi's sales in the U.S. market.

I'm really not trying to be a smarta$$ here, but on whom or what exactly is Audi keeping the pressure up?

not in many areas as BMW has a New X5 due out in a couple months, the New 4-series as the 3-series coupes and convertibles are pretty much non-existent anymore, 3-series diesel.

The biggest thing to help Audi stay ahead of Mercedes will be the arrival of the A3. That will help stave off Mercedes, yet not going to be able to keep pace with BMW as there are too many models arriving.

i guess audi is trying to outpace acura... they're pretty much the only rebadging "luxury" brands out there. audi - what's 2nd tier among luxury carmakers will always remain 2nd tier.

Well, technically, Lexus has 3 models at least that share platforms with Toyotas: ES/Avalon, GX/4Runner, RX/Highlander.

Well, GreenMachine, if you consider that Audi outsells Mercedes-Benz globally and is very close to BMW's global sales lead, is more profitable than BMW and Mercedes-Benz and has seen the largest 5 year sales-growth rate of the 'Big German 3' to be 2nd tier - that's your lazy choice.

BMW4me4ever, I think you forgot the 2015 Audi A4 and Q7 SUV will launch next year in 2014 and both are high-volume models. With reports showing massive weight savings, aggressive and differentiated exterior design, trademark upscale Audi interiors and excellent technology and efficiency, I would say BMW has plenty to be worried about.

Also, the Q2, Q4, and Q6 SUVs will be previewed next year as well.

These consistent results from Audi reflect the American market's desire for the Audi brand. Americans are realizing what the Germans and rest of the world already knows: that Audi cars are usualy as good or better than their German rivals. That's why German car mag tests often rate Audi cars as best in class over rivals from BMW and Mercedes.

Only an ignorant person would claim today that Audi is "second tier". Who knows more about the German cars than the Germans themselves? In Germany, more Audi A8 cars were sold than BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S-Class in the upper class luxury segment in the first half year of sales. Audi sold more cars in Germany than Mercedes and BMW.

The A3 sedan should be a big seller in the U.S., based on german car mag reviews.

Audi USA sells only 21 models in USA (compared with 45 models in Germany).
Anytime Audi wants to increase sales, it can simply increase it's model lineup (or more quickly introduce products already available in Europe), offer more rebates like BMW, or more aggressively advertise its vehicles.

The reality is that Audi has been extremely successful in the global luxury car market. In total global sales for the first half of 2013, Audi is running neck to neck with BMW for world's largest luxury car maker -- less than 24,000 cars separate Audi from BMW globally. This means that Audi already sells the most luxury cars in the rest of the world outside the USA -- including in Germany, Britain, overall Europe, China. Audi is keeping the pressure up on BMW -- as some analysts have said that Audi could possibly overtake BMW as the world's largest luxury car maker between year-end 2013 to year-end 2015. This is likely especially if Audi's new A3 and A4 sedans next year are successful in taking sales from BMW's 3 series. [As a group, the Volkswagen Group is already the world's largest luxury vehicle group with Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ducatti, etc.]
