Though I am definitely not a sport-utility vehicle kind of guy, I have to say that I was pretty eager to get behind the wheel of the all-new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover. There's a couple of reasons behind this, namely the following:
- I have recently piloted the all-new Mercedes-Benz GL550 that was dubbed the SUV of the year by one of the major auto rags, and
- I have a feeling this may be one of the best products introduced this year.
Well, I won't reveal all of my experience here right now but I will say that one thing is for sure, the vehicle did surprise me. This isn't my first rodeo in a Range Rover, that's for sure, but I do have to say I was pretty amazed at how much it reminded me of driving a Jaguar XJ sedan. It's remarkably comfortable, has all the interior accoutrements one could ask for, and a whacking great V8 good for over 500 horsepower.
Here's the kicker: I obtained 15 mpg over a week's worth of time behind the wheel too! Considering it's a full-size SUV with over 500 ponies, that's a bit of achievement.
I have to admit though I never quite understood what had SO many people head over heels about Range Rovers, I think this SUV has started to turn me around a bit.
