Money Magazine Claims The 2014 Corvette Has Evolved Into A Porsche Killer! Do You Believe It?
I really feel sorry for the Corvette. The poor car's been a really good, credible sports car for a long time, every bit the equal, in terms of driving performance and enjoyment, of cars costing tens of thousands of dollars more.

But it just hasn't gotten the respect. It's been seen as a much lesser alternative to a Porsche for those who just don't have the money to pony up for those Porsche prices. Probably that's because the Corvette costs so much less money, looks so much bigger and it carries its engine out front, like any regular car, not in back. Also, let's face it, it's a Chevy.

I don't know what "Porsche Killer" means. On the track, it's stood its own for a long time. In terms of fit and finish, everything prior to the Stingray has been inferior but now the gap is much smaller. For the money, it's always been a better deal. But the "intangibles" -- the allure, the prestige -- are still and for the forseeable future will be on Porsche's side.

Granted, that's not true among all circles of people. Many do appreciate the 'Vette. But I don't think the C7 will lure that many Porsche owners to abandon the brand. Will the C7 win over a larger percentage of cross-shoppers compared to those who cross-shopped Corvettes and Porsches in the past? Yes probably. It should; it's a much greater improvement over the previous generation (C6) relatively speaking when compared to Porsche's offerings. But marketing matters as well so we'll see. The Cayman is a very nice car and a good competitor.

I believe the 'Vette may best the 911's numbers on paper, or on a track, assuming professional drivers on closed courses in both cases, but I also believe that street drivers are not drawn to a car primarily due to "the numbers." There are financial considerations, as well as what appeals to the driver. In other words, I don't believe Chevy will be stealing away any Porsche drivers, or hurting Porsche's sales.

Sorry, but this new design has been Pontiac'd up and just needs a giant eagle decal over the hood to complete the look.

(Which is a shame, because I'm sure it is a great car underneath)

i think you guys all have valid points.. most likely 911 owners will not cross shop the vette mostly because of the prestige.. long term ownership the vette is really hard to beat as far as a car with value, and deep heritage.
