SPIED! 0-60 Performance Times For 2014 Audi DIESELS — Q5, Q7, A6, A7, A8

SPIED! 0-60 Performance Times For 2014 Audi DIESELS — Q5, Q7, A6, A7, A8
You know what they say, right?

"You better be careful for what you wish for, you may just get it."

Well, that's what happened. You asked for more Audi diesels and now Audi's brought them to our shores. For 2014 there will be some more diesel variants for you to choose from.

Now the Q5, A6, A7 and A8 can be had. And if they follow the great success of the A3 and Q7 diesels, that should mean a nice bump in sales for the four rings. Just a reminder, the TDI versions of the A3 and Q7 make up give or take half of their sales.

But what will make them even more astounding to you may be their performance figures. Though the horsepower shouldn't blow your stack, as it produces only 240 horsepower, the diesel motor puts down an asphalt breaking 406 lb.-ft. in the Q7 and A8, and 428 lb.-ft. in the Q5, A6 and A7. That equates to some interesting performance figures when it comes down to the zero to 60 times:

5.5 seconds for the A6 and A7 TDIs

6.4 seconds for the flagship A8 TDI

6.5 seconds for the sure-to-be popular Q5 TDI

7.7 seconds for the big daddy Q7 TDI.

That all said, are you impressed?

Audi developed diesel race cars when others said it couldn’t be done -- and then won the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times in six years, with the only diesel engines to ever win the title (R10 TDI, R15 TDI, R18 TDI). The R15 TDI had a 5.5-liter Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) turbodiesel V10 engine, rated at 590 hp and 774 lb-ft torque.

No wonder Audi's diesel cars are often the best in their class.

2013 German car mag comparison: mid-size luxury executive sedan (diesel)
First Place: Audi A6 2.0 TDI
Second Place: BMW 520d (facelifted)
Third Place: Mercedes E 220 CDI Blue Efficency (facelifted)
Fourth Place: Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI
Fifth Place: Jaguar XF 2.2D

Similarly, the A7 TDI was successful against its rivals in comparison tests.

The pre-facelifted A8 TDI was also successful against its rivals.

Audi has more powerful diesel engines available in Germany. For example:
- Audi A6 3.0 TDI (313 hp, 480 lb-ft torque) is 5.1 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph)
- Audi A8 4.2 TDI (350 hp, 590 lb-ft torque) is 5.5 seconds for A8 and 5.6 seconds for A8L.

Actually the latest diesel comparison between the three, in your favorite Auto Bild is 530d vs. E350 Bluetec vs. A6 3.0 TDI. And the 530d won. Audi wins more often? Clearly not LOL. X3 35d also beat the SQ5 TDI over at Auto Bild. Oh, I keep forgetting Auto Bild isn't your favorite anymore. Ooooops.

Over at the Auto Zeitung, BMW wins 7 most recent diesel comparisons vs. Audi.

320d > A4 2.0 TDI
320d GT > A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI
318d touring > A4 Avant 2.0 TDI
320d touring > A4 Avant TDI
730d > A8 3.0 TDI
X1 sDrive18d > Q3 TDI
X5 M50d > Q7 4.2 TDI

BTW, BMW has faster and more powerful diesels. Try 0-62 in 4.7s with a 375 bhp 3.0. Clearly you've been very misinformed. :P

This August 2013 test that I posted IS the latest diesel comparsion test between the A6, 5 Series and E-Class on German car mags.

Why don't you post links to your comments -- like I do -- so at least we can read the actually facts instead of relying on your word?

Don't worry, I have more comparos.

The Q5 is absolutely on my short list when I replace my Tiguan. I may hold out for VW to decide where to build the CrossBlue SUV, and to see if it has a TDI. The lack of diesel power (in the US) for the Tiguan is the only thing I would change in my current car.

Of course, VW has removed the RNS-510 Nav unit from the current Tiguan and now uses the RNS-315. I can't get a new car without HD Radio. I've been spoiled!

Not a fan of the RNS510 or RCD510 interface. Weak at best.

Don't you guys get the new BiTDI engines in the USA ?

A6 BiTDI 3.0L Twin Turbo, 313hp 479lb ft 0-62 in 5.2secs

A8 4.2 TDI 4.2L Twin Turbo 379hp 590lb ft 0-62 in 5.2secs

If you guys do not get access to these variants, you are definitely missing out.

Here's a video clip comparison: diesel A6 (white car) vs a petrol/gasoline A6 (black car) to answer the question: which is the more entertaining car for the driver?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuMs-uHYG8I

Note the European engines:
- Supercharged Gasoline engine: A6 3.0 TFSI (310 hp, 325 lbs ft torque, 7-sp dual clutch transmission, 5.5 sec to 62 mph)
- Bi-Turbo Diesel engine: A6 3.0 TDI (313 hp, 480 lbs-ft torque, 8-sp automatic transmission, 5.1 sec to 62 mph). Unfortunately, this diesel engine is in Europe, but not coming to the U.S.

Anyone know how reliable the diesels have been using US diesel? I'm starting to hear stories about "carbon buildup", "plugged cats", "heads needing total disassembly and cleaning" before even 70k miles. The forums say its due to sulfur and diesel over here in general. I can still rememeber the "Nikasil" issues in the early 90's where entire engines had to be replaced due to cylinder wall scarring from the gas we had vs what Europe had. Just wondering if anyone knows as the diesels make a strong case to buy but not if they are a major servicing headache down the line.
