SPIED! First Real-Life Photos Of The 2014 Audi Diesel Lineup

This s nice and everything. I am a huge TDI fan. However, why no A4 TDI? Why start at the top end of the range? There is even an A3 TDI (err, was, and will be soon).

I don't get it.

Because Audi is in the process of redesigning the A4 model. Why show a TDI on an older model. In 2014 sometime, the 2015 redesigned A4 and the full line-up of engines will be introduced.

I test drove a diesel A6 this weekend. WOW!! The power it had. NICE!!

Note the engines:
Supercharged Gasoline: A6 3.0 TFSI (310 hp, 325 lbs ft torque, 7-sp dual clutch transmission, 5.5 sec to 62 mph)
Bi-Turbo Diesel: A6 3.0 TDI (313 hp, 480 lbs-ft torque, 8-sp automatic transmission, 5.1 sec to 62 mph). Unfortunately, this diesel engine is in Europe, but not coming to the U.S.

A thorough facelift to the Audi A8 was unveiled 10 hours ago -- and there's still no article about Audi's flagship on 'Auto Spies'.

Audi sharpened the look of its A8 and S8 flagships with smart, clean and elegant design changes in key areas -- as well as added more engine power, more luxury, more driver assistance systems, but less fuel consumption. The A8 L gains an additional 5.12 inches (13 cm) in both length and wheelbase. The Audi A8 3.0 TFSI has a curb weight of just 1,830 kilograms (4,034.46 lb) -– best in class for models with all-wheel drive (a German car mag said it is 125 lbs lighter than a comparable Mercedes S-Class).

"The new Audi A8 on the attack" declared Autobild (Germany and Europe's largest car mag). "Flagship is sharpened" declares Autor Motor und Sport (Germany and Euirope's second largest car mag). "A thorough facelift with customized design and technology" declares Autozeitung (third largest German car mag and larger than any British car mag).

Put the facelifted Audi A8, facelifted BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class infront of full-size luxury car buyers, who are relatively conservative in their tastes. The facelifted A8's classy body enhancements (especially its new grille, new headlights, new tailights, sharper bympers) puts the A8's exterior styling on par with the new Mercedes S Class (whose headlights seem inspired by Audi's headlight innovations on the 2007 A5 and 2009 A8) -- whether rich car buyers prefer the look of one car over the other car will depend on their personal taste. Next to the facelifted A8 and new S-Class, the BMW 7 Series now looks outdated.

Actually, the German mag should have said that the Audi A8 3.0 TFSI is 125 KG (275 lbs) lighter than the Mercedes S 350 Bluetec (rear-wheel drive).... and it is 220 KG (485 lbs) lighter than an S 500 4Matic (all-wheel drive).

The world's auto news media has promptly reported on on the world premiere of the facelifted A8. The Audi flagship has been the best car in its class in the past three years -- yet there's not one article in Auto Spies on the unveiled A8. Contrary to disingenuous claims that this site is 'Audispies', this site has always been 'BMW&Mercedes Spies'. Here we get unproductive articles on teasers for the A8's facelift -- while similar teasers for the BMW M4 were celebrated multiple times here.

I just bought a 2014 A6 TDI Prestige last month and it's unbelievable. Tons of power and I average 43mpg on my trips to DC/VA (from Western PA). I also have a 2013 S5 and I think I like the A6 better in more ways than the S5. Sure, the S5 is quicker and handles batter but everything else is better in the A6 (especially the interior and fuel economy). The surprising thing is that A6 is a HUGE car but it drives like it's much smaller. The car is so big in fact that I was able to fit a 60" Samsung LED (still in the box) in the trunk with the seats folded down!
