SPIED + VIDEO: Mercedes-Benz's All-New S65 AMG Works Its Way Around The Ring
It's only been a little while since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class made its big-time debut. So far from what we've seen it's a very impressive offering in the large luxury sedan class.

Essentially it's become a Maybach now that it doesn't exist anymore. That's pretty awesome!

And while we've seen the standard cars and the S63 AMG, now it's time to see the biggest and baddest S of them all. That would be the S65 AMG with over 600 horsepower and, likely, over 700 lb.-ft. of torque. That's because the current-gen vehicle has 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque.

Though it doesn't appear that there's much room to improve, automakers have impressed us with the impossible before. Let's see if Mercedes can do it again.

From what I can recollect, this is the first clip of the S65 AMG. Looks sort of funny watching it go around the track — it's like watching a couch on the 'Ring — it does it with some gusto.

Take a look below...

Sure hope Mercedes and AMG have been able to shed a lot of weight from this big couch.

The current $215,000 S 65 AMG is heavy (curb weight: 5,097 lbs) and big (206.5 inch). It's 0 to 60 mph acceleration was 4.3 seconds, quarter mile 12.6 sec @ 116.1 mph and MT Figure Eight 26.1 seconds @ 0.73 g (avg) according to Motor Trend's testing. Despite its 6.0L 621-hp 738-lb-ft twin-turbo SOHC 36-valve V-12 engine.

In short, this next S65 AMG needs to be a much better car than the current car, because....

In comparison, the $111,000 Audi S8's numbers: 0 to 60 mph acceleration was 3.5 seconds, quarter mile 11.8 sec @ 118.3 mph and MT Figure Eight only 25.1 seconds @ 0.79 g (avg) according to Motor Trend. The S8's engine: 4.0L 520-hp 481-lb-ft twin-turbo DOHC 32-valve V-8, which really has more power than 520 hp when MT tested it on a dyno. The second link has an MT video of the S8 accelerating as well as driven on a track.

What do you know. I figured I'd read something from Satriani1 about the s8's acceleration. As epic as those starts are consider this why don't you at 4702lbs the E63s 4 matic WAGON just ran a 0-60 in 3.4 sec, the quarter mile in 11.7 @ 120.7 mph and ran a 24.3 @ .84 g in the figure 8. Im sure if AMG can make their STATION WAGON that fast the S63 (awd vs. awd apples to apples) will be just fine. I will say the 65 because it is rear wheel drive won't be able to hang from a start but anything from a roll I'll put money on the 65. From a dig the 63 will take of the A8 in a drag race.

Why are you pretending to be surprised... given the long history of certain Mercedes/BMW posters like you and Car4Life showing up on Audi-related blogs?

Your Mercedes E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic station wagon is irrelevant:
- This is a blog about full-size luxury sedans, not mid-size luxury wagons
- Rich Americans are not interested in buying expensive AMG station wagons
- I've already responded to this issue in detail in this other blog (see link):
http://autospies.com/news/DETAILED-MORE-Photos-Of-The-2015-Audi-A8-And-S8-s-Nitty-Gritty-77701/

In any case, your argument is illogical: Audi's S7 sportback with only 420 hp engine did the same Figure 8 course in 24.8 sec (just 0.5 sec slower than the E 63 AMG S wagon with 157 hp more), but the S8 with a 520 hp version of the same engine does the same course in 25.1 sec because it is 6.6 inches longer and 184 lbs heavier than the S7.

The differences between the E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic station wagon and the S 65 AMG 4Matic sedan are even bigger -- the latter is 13.1 inches longer and several hundred pounds heavier. You can stop fantasizing your S 65 AMG 4Matic sedan will hit 25.1 seconds for Fig 8 or hit 3.5 seconds to 60 mph on a Motor Trend test (even though I think all S 65 AMG cars will come with 4Matic). [On a track, the sedan and wagon versions of the same Audi vehicle are quite close, probably because the extra weight in a wagon is in the rear of the car, thus improving weight distribution slightly. E.g., the 2009 S4 sedan and S4 avant wagon both posted faster laptimes than a 2012 BMW 335is M Sport coupe and 2007 Mercedes C 63 AMG T-Model; but the S4 Avant's performance does not necessarily translate to a bigger car.].

Let's see how the S 65 AMG 4Matic performs on a Motor Trend test first before jumping to a drag race.

Why would I want to look at the track numbers of the $300,000 SLS Black Series? In the real world the SLS Black has a hard time keeping up with the RS6 on a journey through the Alps -- so said Top Gear.

I know how much you love to copy and paste links. While your at it look at the Black Series numbers around the track and quarter mile. AMG knows their business.
