DETAILED! MORE Photos Of The 2015 Audi A8 And S8's Nitty Gritty
Though we were happy to bring you plenty of photos and information concerning Audi's newly revamped 2015 A8 and S8 luxury sedans, tonight we want to highlight some of the best parts of it. That, my friends, would be the details of the car.

That's because no one pays attention to the little stuff like Audi. I am not going to lie though, it looks like Mercedes-Benz may have surpassed Audi with the all-new S-Class. I'll see when I get into one.

Looking at the A8, the new big deal folks keep talking about are the "matrix" LED headlights. But you really have to check out the interior with that blonde or white wood — it's spectacular and I've NEVER seen that done before. Then there's the executive seating package that has more controls than a spaceship. Not to mention the capability to move the passenger front seat forward, put down the footrest and relax.

There's a whole lot going on, you just have to take a second to check it all out.

See the detail shots below...

The A8's exterior continues to put me to sleep no matter how many exclamation points you put in the title.

Then you should love your Mercedes S Class even more -- which you said is a "beast" on the latest Mercedes blog.

People with design sense tend to like the Audi A8. In 2010, this gen's A8 won the prestigious EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellence. In that year, the EyesOn Design jury were 19 top design executives from automotive manufacturers and transportation design academics led by three chief judges (Jack Telnack, former global vice president of design for Ford; Willie Davidson, Harley-Davidson’s executive vice president and chief styling officer; and Tom Matano, executive director of industrial design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco).

Many rich people (i.e., those who can actually afford these $100,000 plus luxury sedans) tend to be relatively conservative in their tastes -- they usually prefer understated elegance to heavily-chromed cars that seek attention. Audi A8 gives gives these buyers a compelling alternative with its smart design changes -- including its new generation of headlights/tailights -- that have sharpened and modernized the look of its A8/S8 flagships to stand out next to a new S-Class. "A8 design changes include a more expressive grille and more sculptured hood. The lower edge of the headlights is straighter than before. Overall, the car's front end looks a little more aggressive, a bit meaner perhaps." said Detroit's Autoweek.

Line up the facelifted Audi A8, new Mercedes S-Class and facelifted BMW 7 Series in front of rich people (see photos in links) -- let them judge which exterior design most appeals to them. My guess: most will say the Audi A8 and S-Class is about tied for exterior design... while the BMW 7 Series looks less appealing in comparison.

Is Audi dropping engine size designation on the trunk. I see W12 and TFSI, but no liter size.

I would not prematurely jump to conclusions that the S-Class has surpassed the facelifted until all three major German magazines have done detailed comparison tests -- and we actually have a chance to sit in both cars (I've seen the new S-Class in Germany but haven't seen the facelifted A8 yet). What's interesting is that in last week's Autozeitung comparo (first link) which the Tesla Model S beat the Mercedes and BMW, the Mercedes S 500 (long wheelbase) was surprisingly tied with the BMW 750Li -- which may indicate that the Mercedes is not all that it was hyped. In previous Autozeitung tests (2010 to 2012, e.g., see second link) that included the A8, the A8 was always ahead of the S-Class and 7 Series.

A new German model is expected to take best in class. But stranger things have happened -- e.g., the 2010 Audi A6 in its final year of life still won a Car and Driver comparo. Until detailed comparison tests are done by credible magazines, we really do not know from pictures, first looks and driving reports how the car actually compares against its rivals.

The A8 is like the chick you ask out AFTER being rejected by the hottest girl in the room, the S Class, and her nemesis, the 7 series.

I'm sorry, but the 7-series hasn't looked appealing for at least 2 gens, I would take this A8 six ways to Sunday over a 7er...and I own 2 Bimmers.

Car4Life brought up a very important question that he wouldn't be able to consider: which full-size luxury sedan would a smart guy use to take out the hottest woman on the planet?

It wouldn't be the current $215,000 S 65 AMG because it's too slow as a sports sedan. That S63 AMG is so heavy (curb weight: 5,097 lbs) and big (206.5 inch) that it's 0 to 60 mph acceleration is 4.3 seconds, quarter mile 12.6 sec @ 116.1 mph and MT Figure Eight 26.1 seconds @ 0.73 g (avg) according to Motor Trend. [Even an Audi S6 or S7 is better than those numbers -- despite the S 65 AMG's V-12 engine].
http://tinyurl.com/mk97vql

It wouldn't be any BMW 7 Series because it's too slow as a sports sedan... even the BMW Alpina B7 is too slow. Besides the 7 series looks so dated, it needs the next generation introduced sooner rather than later.

Thank goodness for guys there are Porsches and Audis to take out hot chicks in. Every lady needs to be treated special.

Take the $111,000 Audi S8's numbers: 0 to 60 mph acceleration is 3.5 seconds, quarter mile 11.8 sec @ 118.3 mph, and MT Figure Eight 25.1 seconds @ 0.79 g (avg) according to Motor Trend. That's probably the fastest sedan in production.

The new e63s wagon according to MT is faster than the s8 to 60 and the quarter mile. On top of that the wagon lapped the figure 8 ALMOST a full second quicker.

The E 63 AMG S-Model wagon data is irrelevant for two reasons:

1. We're talking four-door luxury sedans on this blog (specifically full-size sedans), NOT mid-size station wagons. Show me a Motor Trend test with a faster four-door sedan of any size (and make sure to post the links) -- there is nothing in production today.

2. You take out a hot woman in a higher-luxury sedan or sports car. You don't take out a hot date in a mid-luxury E-Class stataion wagon (she will be turned off and suspect you see her as cargo to be laid).

The Audi S8 sedan is almost 10 inches longer and yet has a smaller, less powerful-rated engine than the Mercedes E 63 AMG S-Model 4-Matic wagon.
- 2013 Audi S8 (engine: twin-turbo 4.0L DOHC 32-valve V-8 -- 520-hp & 481-lb-ft)
- 2014 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG S-Model 4-Matic Wagon (engine: twin-turbo 5.5L DOHC 32-valve V-8 -- 577-hp & 590-lb-ft ).

Despite this engine disadvantage and length disadvantage to the lower-class Mercedes, the Audi S8 sedan was an insignificant 0.1 seconds slower to 60 mph and an insignifcant 0.1 seconds slower to quarter mile compared to the E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic wagon. Given the insignificant variances, had both vehicles been tested on different days or with different testers they could have been tied. At least the Audi has better fuel economy.

Audi S8 sedan vs Mercedes E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic wagon:
- LENGTH: 202.2 inch vs 193.4 inch
- 0-60 MPH: 3.5 sec vs 3.4 sec
- QUARTER MILE: 11.8 sec @ 118.3 mph vs 11.7 sec @ 120.4 mph
- BRAKING, 60-0 MPH: 107 ft vs 110 ft
- MT FIGURE EIGHT: 25.1 sec @ 0.79 g (avg) vs 24.3 sec @ 0.84 g (avg)
- EPA CITY/HWY FUEL ECONOMY: 15/26 mpg vs 15/21 mpg

http://tinyurl.com/kv6ereo
http://tinyurl.com/mclxntt

I'd like to see how your Mercedes S 65 AMG sedan performs on the MT Figure Eight course. The E 63 AMG S 4Matic has a 0.8 second advantage on the Figure 8 partly because the Mercedes is 10 inches shorter than the S8. On the Figure 8 course, the Audi S8 is still very competent despite its 202.2 inch length -- the 102.2 inch Audi S8 is 0.5 second faster than a 182.5 inch BMW 335i (25.6 sec @ 0.75 g avg). But Audi did not build the S8 to perform like an RS8 car on a small Figure 8 track. Audi built the S8 for the real world of streets, highways and canyon roads, where it is extremely capable.

["AMG SSSSSS-Model" with 4Matic is the fastest and most powerful AMG product in production today in Mercedes, barring its high-end coupes. The real comparison should be the Mercedes E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic wagon against an Audi RS6 PLUS Avant wagon. For now, Autobild tested the regular RS6 Avant wagon (3.6 sec) to be 0.2 seconds faster to 62 mph than this E 63 AMG S-Model 4Matic wagon (3.8 sec) -- even though the RS6 wagon just had a 560 hp, 516 lb-ft torque version of the S8's smaller engine. No doubt Motor Trend would probably test the RS6 at about 3.2 seconds to 60 mph, 0.2 seconds faster than its test of the E 63 AMG S 4Matic. A
