Will The Lexus RC-F Coupe Be Able To Steal The Thunder From The Germans?
Watch out Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW; Lexus are about to gate-crash the midsize super-coupe arena, and first impressions reveal that they mean serious business. To date, the luxury division of Toyota has had to make do with the thundering IS-F sedan to battle Germany's finest mid-size bruisers - however this is all about to change with coupe version of the latest series that goes well beyond a simple nip/tuck and deletion of the rear doors.

A quick glance will register why Lexus have given it the RC-F name; there appears to be little bodywork shared with the latest IS sedan - almost looking like it has come from a completely separate model-line. Taking the best bits from the LF-CC Concept and LFA supercar give the RC-F an almighty visual punch.

That whole rear end, at least from the side view, makes the car look like it's molting and has its old outer layer still stuck to its arse. And no it won't steal any thunder from the M4 or C-class coupe. But it offers competition which never hurts. I kind of hope it makes Infiniti and Acura try to match the offering, honestly :-/

nope. especially not with the 10-year old V6 that's going to be in 90%+ of them.

or like the BMW 320 4-banger or 240-hp 328 that make up over 85% of all 3-series sales.

Christ.

carrera: the 328 engine is fantastic. it's a brand new turbo 4 that makes 40hp and 80 lb-ft more torque than this 10-year old toyota engine. it's also 2 full seconds faster to 60mph and gets better gas mileage.

so how, exactly, is the IS250 even remotely comparable to the 328?

It's not, the 320 competes against the IS250 you moron.

You can tell Lexus is on to something when the morons here get their panties in a bunch. It makes no difference what you say, Lexus will be bringing something to the party this time. Something that your sorry arses had been fearing they'd do.

And NO...it won't have the "10-year old V6". If you actually took time to read the article you'd learn that it will be something like a 5.0-litre V8, with at least 450 bolting horses.

If they leave the design as is and with the aforementioned specs, I'd say yes...it will have absolutely no problem stealing sales from the German makes.

the V8 will be in the top of the line model. the base will have the same old IS engines. duh.

You do realize the article is about the Lexus RC-F Coupe, right? And that the said model is a 5.0-litre V8, right?

duh?

Lexus will need to make the RC-F truly special to make any impact on the M4/C63/RS5 front. The new IS proved disappointing by using carryover engines. I do think the over-the-top styling themes from the IS will translate much better to the RC/RC-F. (btw, I saw a new IS on the road the other day and it was completely underwhelming - I actually had to look twice to make sure it wasn't a previous generation TSX).

Weird how you don't bother to mention the BMW 335i's carryover engine...maybe because it went from 306 to the now 300hp it offers? I mean, that only came out 5 years ago...

yeah, and it's weird how the 335i goes 0-60 in about 4.4 seconds, almost a full second faster than the Lexus. What's there to complain about? I'd say that's pretty frickin' good for a 5-year old engine, huh?

And let me add that Lexus has 2..count them…2…carryover engines for the IS. BMW at least introduced the 328i with the 4-cylinder that, basically, performs as well as the Lexus 6. Next.

Hahahaha!!!! 4.4 seconds!!!! There hasn't been a single review putting it even remotely NEAR that time!!!! So now the 335i is in AMG and 911 territory??!! I HAVE a 335i that BMW themselves just modded last year and even that doesn't
sniff anywhere under 4.8!!
