FIRST Official Photos And DETAILS! 2014 Lexus GX460
Wow! It's been a busy week for new reveals! The latest to hit the newsroom is the new 2014 Lexus GX460. In the world of badass, luxury sport-utility vehicles, this is not one to be excluded.

That's because not only is it a relaxing and refined auto, it's also off-road capable. Though I doubt most Lexus buyers will NOT be taking it anywhere off the tarmac. Maybe to do some towing here or there.

Most observers will note that for 2014 the GX gets the infamous "spindle" grille that Lexus has been spreading across its latest and greatest products.

In addition, there's some seriously good news in the pricing department – the "base" model starts at $49,085, which is more than $4,700 cheaper over the 2013 model year product. If you want all of the bells and whistles you'll have to step up to the "luxury" variant. That starts at $60,715 and will add on amenities like an air suspension, navigation system and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.

I'll spare going every line item for now but if you're itching to find out the whole banana, you can check out the press release below.

Lexus' press release follows:

Lexus Announces Pricing for Updated 2014 GX 460

  • 2014 GX 460 priced at $49,085 — $4,710 less than the 2013 model year
  • Redesigned GX features the Lexus spindle grille, standard LED headlamps, DRLs and available LED foglamps, and new multi-media with eight-inch touch screen display audio and complimentary HD Radio Real-Time Traffic and Weather
  • New Premium Package includes Navigation, Park Assist, Three Zone Climate control and heated rear seats at the same price as the base 2013 GX 460.
  • The new Luxury grade includes Navigation, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and an Adaptable Air Suspension at a starting price of $60,715.

TORRANCE, Calif. (August 23, 2013) – The redesigned 2014 Lexus GX 460 luxury utility vehicle (LUV) will be offered in two grades when it arrives at dealerships beginning in September. The standard GX will carry a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $49,085, $4,710 or nearly nine percent less than the previous year; while the Luxury model which will be priced at $60,715. The MSRP does not include a delivery, processing and handling fee of $910.

The 2014 GX 460 redesign features a new interpretation of the Lexus spindle grille with standard LED headlamps and daytime running lights. LED fog lamps are now available.  The luxurious and spacious GX receives several interior enhancements. A new touch-screen display audio adds an eight-inch screen, backup monitor, HD Radio™, Bluetooth® audio, automatic phone book transfer, a vehicle information display and complimentary traffic and weather data provided via HD Radio.  The cabin also gets new linear espresso wood/abyss black trim. Mahogany wood trim is included on both the Premium Package and Luxury model.  For 2014 the GX offers an available Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The Lexus GX continues to provide additional value to drivers who want a fully capable LUV. The new Premium Package will be at the same price as the base 2013 model year GX 460 and has the following features:
  • Navigation system with backup monitor
  • Perforated leather trimmed interior
  • Heated & ventilated front seats
  • Heated outboard rear seats
  • Intuitive Parking Assist
  • Three Zone Climate control

The new GX Luxury model includes Adaptable Air Suspension, Navigation, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Intuitive Parking Assist, and 18-inch split six-spoke wheels with liquid graphite finish.

The Lexus GX 460 teams a 4.6-liter V8 engine with a six-speed Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) for an output of 301horsepowerat 5,500 rpm. The GX 460 has an EPA-estimated 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway.

The GX has a class leading standard 10 airbags and on the Luxury model available Advanced Pre Collision with Driver Monitor.

The GX 460 is one of the few premium luxury utility vehicles that can deliver genuine trail driving capability. Combining that capability with Lexus luxury and on-road performance makes it even more exceptional.

The standard full-time four-wheel drive uses an electronically controlled transfer case and a TORSEN® torque-sensing limited slip center differential which can be electronically locked.  It also offers a low range for off-road driving.  The TORSEN differential distributes power 40:60 front/rear under most driving conditions and changes the ratio as needed based on wheel slip.

The ability to change to a 30:70 front/rear ratio during steering maneuvers helps enhance vehicle tracking through curves.  If the rear wheels spin, the center differential can change the ratio to 50:50 front/rear to help control the slippage.

By adjusting sway resistance provided by the front and rear stabilizer bars, standard Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) can help reduce maximum body-lean angle by as much as 50 percent to help enhance both on-road handling response and off-highway capability.  Trailer sway control is also added for 2014.

OMG. That grille looks really familiar: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/PREDATOR-60724927

Seriously, Lexus, WTF? Just wrong on so many levels, inside and out. The Land Rover LR4 just spit up its coolant from the sudden burst of laughter.

LOL - that's exactly the image I thought of when I saw that grill -- simply awful....

Now that's a face even a mother might have trouble loving.

On a separate note, "Though I doubt most Lexus buyers will NOT be taking it anywhere off the tarmac" means the opposite of what you think it means.

Wow, the Beak from Acura is now this hourglass atrocity for Lexus. Look forward to seeing this beast toppling around mall parking lots shortly.

I think it's wonderful that Lexus has hired blind designers.

okay..can somebody please explain to me how it is with ALL of the design and approval steps and millions and millions of dollars that it costs to finalize and approve a new model that a significant amount of the decision makers at Lexota stood and looked at the frozen design of this thing and said "yes, that is the one...it looks great...build it"

Wow. That is ugly. Seriously, who would buy this? I guess people who buy Lexus in generally who have no taste and no interest in quality motoring.

Thank goodness, we have found where the old Pontiac Aztec designers ended up. The front grill is hideous. If you look at it closely, it is crying. The back end looks heavy and the side panels looks like a GMC type product. Don't even get me started on the interior.

Is it me or does this thing look incrediblely unstable. Narrow track and top heavy. Reminds me of my 93 Isuzu Trooper

I have a co-worker who has one (or its predecessor). Sometimes we leave work at the same time and I follow her out the parking lot. That thing leans over a good foot and swings back as she takes the right turn out to the street at 10 MPH. I'm sure it feels dangerous as hell inside...but I'm sure she is brainwashed to think that her $60K vehicle is the safest thing she could buy.

"In the world of badass, luxury sport-utility vehicles, this is not one to be excluded."

this is badass? a 10-year old 300hp V8? the same basic car they've been making for YEARS with a new grill? same dated interior?

LOL.

all these facts could explain why they DROPPED the base price of this 'new' by $4700 while makers like bmw just RAISED the price of the new X5 by $5300 (while also dropping 4-wheel drive as standard).

The center stack looks like R2D2. Rather have a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Wow, I'm impressed, people hired as car designers penned a vehicle that doesn't look good from any angle! On the other hand, it is tall and ungainly looking. How did this thing get get signed off for production? You know what? Lexus will sell a pile of them. Some people's taste are all in their mouths. Yikes, it's bad.

OMG , super tacky and ugly thing , and I don't need to try this but it super unstable for sure , is easy to see that. They also use the same previous abomination design but with the new over and over done grille.
This thing is discounting .

this thing looks so unfinished on the outside. Like a different design team was responsible for the A pillar forward, another team for C pillar back, and another team for in between the A and C pillar and then just threww it all together. Nothing flows. It looks like one of those chinese car companies that copies other models. Too much front overhang. I do actually like the interior, especially the dash, but it looks so confused on the outside. Can't see how this made final approval to be built.

Ugly. Looks like something kitshed up for the US market. Probably not far off from the new Escalade, sad to say. Not how to build a brand.

What a monstrosity! This thing simply does nothing good for the brand as a whole.
Also, is this where the all that heritage from the Land Cruisers from the 60’s and 70’s ended?

This is based on the 4 Runner, not the Land Cruiser. Thank goodness they haven't done this to the Land Cruiser. But yes, you nailed it, it is a monstrosity, but sheep will flock to it.

what a mistake, but I never much liked the GX anyway... the new Toyota front ends are also questionable like the new 4Runner
