Tesla Market Value Exceeds $20 Million
Tesla Motors Inc. (TSLA)’s market value exceeded $20 billion on investor optimism that Elton Musk can keep widening the appeal of electric-powered cars as the company’s sales increase.

The stock climbed 5.7 percent to a $171.03 at 12:02 p.m. New York time after reaching an intraday record of $172.75. Shares of the Palo Alto, California-based company, which had its initial public offering just three years ago, have surged about fivefold this year.

Agree. Still cheap for a company that re-wrote the rules on how to not only design the best car we have seen, but create the infrastructure for it as well. We are witnessing history and will look back and say "I remember when..."

the funny thing is, everything he says is true. The only reason Tesla has been able to show any profit (non-GAAP at that) is from selling carbon credits. The stock price is insane, it's basically a dot com bubble waiting to happen. But hey, they're the cool new kid on the block, let the lemmings and day trader wizards have at it.

I don't see Tesla succeeding in the near future. It's been 10 years and the company has only turned a single profit, which itself was only the result of massive government subsidy mostly from the bankrupt state of CA. As nice as the car is and as forward thinking as it is, it still has a number of shortcomings. Its massive price tag is the first and most important of those shortcomings. If they can manage to build an affordable Tesla (says USD 25,000), then they may pull it out, but until then the cars are just toys for those who can afford them and the lifestyle they impose.
