STUD or DUD: Did Lexus "Jump The Shark" With The New GX460's DESIGN?

STUD or DUD: Did Lexus
Over the weekend we relayed news to you that Lexus had officially provided information on the newly revamped 2014 GX460. The GX was known for its size on and off-road capability and luxury, above all else.

When it came to the vehicle's design it was something to behold. It seemed purposeful and masculine, which is not something typically associated with Lexus products.

Now that the 2014 GX has inherited the now commonplace "spindle" grille though, it just looks sort of...wrong. That's because, to me, it looks as though it's taking elements from other Lexus products and tacking them on.

Take, for example, the LS600 hybrid's LED headlights mixed together with the LED lit portion seemingly ripped off from an IS. It just looks ill conceived with the rest of the front clip.

Thankfully, the interior remains untouched — at least from what I can tell — as it has been essentially perfect from day one.

That said, I am left in a bit of bewilderment: Is the newly revamped 2014 Lexus GX460 a STUD or a DUD?

The old one always looked unfinished. Now this one looks overdone.

thats a fair assessment. I'd rather have overdone than unfinished.

I understand that Lexus wants to have their own distinctive look, but this spindle grill design is hideous in every iteration on all of their vehicles.

Hard to imagine how this design was approved internally, and actually made it to production.

Infiniti has competition for the ugly SUV design award. Fire the Lexus designers who came out with the stupid grille design on all their cars.

Horrendous. I can see Lexus dropping the spindle grille in a few years from now. Pretty much like Infiniti did went they went from no grille to having one. This back and forth goes in detriment of the brand's image.

Lexus customers are like toyota customers...all they care about is the badge on the front.

It looks like Lexus is trying to EAT THE SHARK with that grille.

Just. Not. Working.

I've never seen Predator, don't care to, so I'm soooooo over the Predator meme.

I like the spindle grill. It's unique. On some applications, it is more osentatious than others. But when you see the two side by side, as above, it clearly is a marked improvement. I think it did wonders for the bland front end of the RX. In person, the 3D effect of the spindle is quite dramatic. This may not be the best version of it, but it'll do.

When you no nothings give a thumbs down, that means sales will be great. Remember the 2010 RX350? Sales leader for the last 15 yrs.

Let's see now, no Three Pointed Star, no boring dual kidney grills. How could this car be any good? After all, the Lexus is just reliable, well built and very comfortable on the road and has good resale. Who would want that when you can get BMW 6 series Gran Coupe for only $125,000??

tell us why this is an attractive car?

is it the 10-year old interior? the 10-year old 300hp V8? or the lovely new grill they put on a 10-year old design and called it 'new'?

and if it's soooo wonderful, why did they DROP the price by $4700 on a 'new' model?

face it, toyota knows it's just a warmed over old model and they are hoping to move the metal by lowering the price.

Hey how's your 5-series with the 6 year-old 300hp engine in it? That thing has been around since '07 in the 3er, why aren't you whining about that?

They are deconteted to lower the price for the 3rd seat option. This is much smarter than developing an new model with a third seat.
