Cadillac's 420 HP 2014 CTS V Sport To Slide In At Under $60,000
General Motors Co. said Wednesday its new 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport will start at $59,995 when it hits showrooms this fall.

The rear-wheel drive CTS Vsport features GM’s first twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 engine and is paired with an eight-speed transmission. The engine is capable of generating 420 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds of torque.

GM said the new Cadillac CTS Vsport achieved a record lap of 8:14.10 at Germany’s Nürburgring track, nearly six seconds faster than Cadillac’s first generation CTS-V that had a larger V-8 engine.

I think the new CTS, especially this VSport version is going to be a blast to drive. Too bad its styling, especially that rear end, can't compete with the Germans. The front end does look good, but beyond that, the CTS has gone from one of the best-styled sedans to a fairly bland one. The interior looks good, though it appears to mimick Acura's layout.

I have to disagree. I think the styling is much better than the Germans. We will have to see how it performs and handles though before judgement can be passed.

Definitely a great alternative to the Germans! I also think that the car looks very nice. What I'm not sure though is if Cadillac is being able to grab the younger crowd’s attention. I think people in their 30s and 40's still prefer to say they drive BMWs, Audis and MBs than Cadillacs or Lincolns.

The price is not bad, but still too close the Germans, and possibly future Asian competitors, to really make a dent. The "luxury" performance segment is so close, Cadillac is really going to have to be something special to drive to have a chance.

I don't want to give the impression that American marques have to be cheap to sell, but even at a $10k difference, I'm probably still going to go with an Audi or BMW.

What if it was a real competitor like the ATS is to the Germans? Shouldn't it at least warrant a consumers consideration as a possible option for something in the segment?

ATS is too expensive.

I think the CTS looks great. I'd still rather have a 550xi M Sport or S6, but I'd take it over an E400 or whatever they're calling the new turbo six.

When will an All Wheel Drive be offered (AWD)?
Without an AWD, the CTS Vsport is not a true competitor.

So you say.

Think about! In particular Audi is the standard bearer for the complete performance vehicle. The herd & lemmings are chasing BMW, but real competition is at the Audi level.
