SPIED: Volkswagen's COOLEST Car Getting An Update — Jury's Still OUT If The US Will Get It
One of the biggest head-scratching issues surrounding the Volkswagen community is whether or not the US will ever have the pleasure of receiving the Scirocco. It's plagued vee-dub enthusiasts since the product made its debut abroad and never seemed to catch a boat ride stateside.

Perhaps the brand is afraid it will cannibalize Golf GTI sales but I think I'd rather keep them in brand than lose a sale to a competitor. I mean, if Audi and BMW can produce niche products what's keeping a more mainstream player from doing the same?

It worked when VW introduced the CC.

Oh-kay, enough of that. The real reason you're here is because you want to see the latest spy shots of the Scirocco undergoing testing with some camouflage on its front clip. That could only mean one thing: it's time that the Scirocco gets in line with the VW family look of LEDs.

I remember thinking the Scirocco was really cool...way back during 2nd generation and then it's replacement the Corrado. Low slung cars were so common back then. This generation looks very tall and if I'm going with tall why not just get a GTI?

Looked it up - 2nd gen in 1981-92 was 51.4" tall; this one is 55.3" and looks even more pudgy than that because of the high beltline.

Yeah. I have to say I don't get what the real product differentiation here is aside from a reskinned chassis, essentially.

Would really come down to how much more or less it is over the Golf.

The chassis on both cars are slightly different. The Scirocco shares a platform with the Euro Passat and Eos.The Golf was on a smaller platform.
The new Golf is on the new modular platform that will be shared with Euro Passat. That said the comments above are accurate. At 55.3 inches the Scirocco is only 2.5 inches lower than the GTI. Their front ends are not that dissimilar. The new Golf is slightly lower and slightly more rakish than before. So I'm guessing from VW's point of view they would be selling two somewhat similar cars in a much smaller market than Europe. The Scirocco has less interior room than the 2 Dr Golf GTI. Now that the new GTI is out it's capabilities are probably better than the Scirocco. The 2015 Scirocco is being promised to be a very different type of car. My guess is that it may either be strictly a 2 seater or that it will be lower and more of a 2 plus two than a modified hatchback competing with the Golf.

I think the original Audi TT was a more sucessful atempt of a sports car than this version of the Scirocco.
