German Sportscar Maker Gumpert Goes Belly Up
The German supercar manufacturer has gone under according to insolvency administrator Gorge Scheid after he reported that the company’s mysterious new investor declined to fund the struggling enterprise.

A year after filling for insolvency, Gumpert faced the lack of orders which prompted the dismissal of the last 19 employees on site and the fact that after the March investment announcement and new model nothing had really happened and no money were infused in the company.

From 009's inautonews article: "Founded in 2004 by by former Audi manager Roland Gumpert, the automaker has developed three versions of the Apollo supercar, which was powered by a bi-turbo 4.2-liter V8 engine that delivered 650 HP. More recently, the company introduced the Apollo S at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It featured a 4.2-liter V8 engine that developed 750 HP (551 kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque which enabled it to run from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds.

The company rose to fame back in 2009 when it posted a record topping lap on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife track and was subsequently featured during the Top Gear show."

The Gumpert Apollo Sport's laptime at Germany's Hockenheim racetrack (this was driven by Horst von Saurma) is still the second fastest on that track for a production car. It's this version that von Saurma supertested at Hockenheim and Nurburgring.
