IF Volkswagen Put The VW Scirocco ON SALE, Would YOU Be Tempted To Pick One Up?
Recently Agent 001, the head cheese, was up in NoCal sampling some of the all-new notables from Volkswagen's lineup. There were some particularly interesting vehicles that he drove but easily one stole the show.

Of course, there's a problem: it's not for sale in the States although VW officials hinted that it could be down the road.

Considering it's been on the market in Europe since 2009, we're thinking this generation product won't make it here. And that's a shame because it's one helluva good looking vehicle.

As it's the "R" variant, it is pushing out 265 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque via a four-cylinder turbocharged motor. Mated to a DSG transmission, it's packaging sounds awfully familiar to the currently out Golf R.

So, what say you? If Volkswagen were to put the Scirocco ON SALE, would you take one for a spin? Buy one?

Let us know in the comments below...

@ $39k, without a doubt, NO WAY! They missed the boat on this one...

Since this vehicle hasn't properly been considered for the U.S. market I bet that's a straight conversion using exchange rate. I doubt they'd actually price the Scirocco R at $39,000 USD.

It would never sell.

Having owned a new Scirocco in '86, and three Corrado SLC's, you bet I would buy the new Scirocco, as long as VW sold it with the same option packages as the rest of the world and did not decontent it. My big gripe, with VW is their penchant to decontent everything in the U.S. Cheap seems to be their new marketing buzzword. They seem to think we will not pay for a premium package with VW on it. Wrong!

@Mustang

You are pretty much spot-on, sir.

The decontenting was seen at its extreme in the Jetta; however, you have to keep in mind MOST folks picking one of those up aren't looking for the premium materials and independent rear suspension.

Though VW must have known it made a mistake as the rear suspension has been fixed for '14.

P.S. This is why I picked up my '12 Golf when I did.

Sorry, as pretty as it is, it just won't beat the value and practicality of the Golf/GTI/GTD....

CarCrazedinCali: Here's a simple example of you making crazy and absurd assertions without thinking...
supermoto: "...For the same price I could by a used Continental GT, Aston, etc."
Agent009: "and have those lovely repair bills to boot"

Like I need you to point out my comments... I will keep pointing out how annoying you are, as many on here agree, even agents... Look at your deboosts and tell me how well you are received...

Listen Crazy, two can play the game. You make enough absurd comments.
You obviously haven't learned to count or think. Almost 4,000 people viewed this page. Only a complete moron would claim that a few deboosts represent the will of the majority.
Furthermore, you must be monumentally arrogant to fantasize that you represent the will of the majority. Are you a Soviet Commissar?

You're so easy to get going, I love it! Re-read your posts to discover arrogance. Good insult too btw, think of that by yourself?

Gosh, Crazy, you're sounding defensive that 99.9% of the 4,300 people who read this blog don't share your biased views.

I tried really hard to "discover arrogance" in my original post. You know what I found? Seven links to German car mags regarding the VW Scirocco. If you think there is arrogance in those German car mag links, then you must be more absurd than I thought, lol. (In addition to being a hypocrite who wants to point out my comments but whines when the tables are turned and I point out your comments).

I was referring to the other million posts where you are constantly arguing about Audi being superior and not really listening to any other arguments, that's annoying and arrogant. I just find you annoying is all, speaking for many here I dare to say. I'm done with you for now. Fun times, thanks for replying and I appreciate the absurdity of your responses.

It's too closely aligned to the Golf R for more money. Granted, it's definitely much better looking, but not sure that would be enough to pay the extra price.

What extra price ?

The Sirocco is priced £100 less than similarly engined golfs

Pretty car, VW wants too much!

For that price, VW would need to include AWD and 40+ hp and loose the 19" rims for lighter 18".

p.s.
I would still want the manual or you would need to add an additional cog in the DSG for a total of seven

As a fan and previous owner of many Sciroccos, I'm not sure I like the current design language enough to lust for one like I have in the past. Perhaps that will change in the next redesign.
To be honest, I'm more interested in a Polo Gti. Jus sayn!

and now everyone will be saying VW copied the Elantra/i30 hatch because Hyundai released VW's design over here first eventhough VW has been using it for 3+ years everywhere else.

If its too expensive, get an Elantra if you prefer the counterfeits.

I think I could get a Mazdaspeed3 with 4 doors, more space, and have 15 grand leftover.

If I want a fwd sports car I am not looking at practicality. Sports cars have 2 doors and they are not known for exceptional roominess. They compensate for this by offering a better driving experience. The current Scirocco offers a better driving experience than the old GTI and Golf R as well as ahost of other cars It has a lower center of gravity and a wider front and rear track. If I were looking at a Scirocco R I would be looking at an alternative to V6 Mustang or Camaro, Scion or Subaru or even the Hyundai Coupe. If you want a 4dr than you are not really interested in a sports car.(exception Subaru WRX and STI as well as EVO) Therefore if the Scirocco were on sale I would buy it.Further VAG would not price it at 39 grand in the US. The reason is simple. They could not sell it at that price.VAG has 2 alternatives to help offer a Scirocco at the right price. One would be to build the car in Tenessee. Two would be to build the car in Puebla, Mexico.Either choice would allow them to price the car correctly in the 23 to 28 grand range with an R version at 30 grand. In that price range the Scirocco is a very competative proposition to all the cars I mention above. It would offer an advantage in it's driving characteristics. No FWD torquesteer unlike a Focus ST or Mazdaspeed 3 or even Mini CooperS etc. It would simply come down to preference between FWD vs RWD with the WRX and Evo as the wild card.

Manual 6-spd not an option? Strange, considering it's appealing to enthusiasts, the same crowd buying GTI in manual.
