00R's Friend Has His Dilemma Solved — You Won't BELIEVE What He Picked Up!
It wasn't too long ago that I informed you of a close friend of mine that was battling over a new car he was going to acquire. It came down to several options but it essentially boiled down to a simple philosophical argument:

BMW or GM?

It was between a BMW 3-Series xDrive coupe, a Chevrolet Camaro SS or a Chevrolet Corvette (C6).

Well, I forgot one major part of this equation: He is a HUGE Acura fan. He's owned a 1993 Legend, a 1997 TL and a last-gen TL Type S. When he raised picking up another last-gen TL Type S and asked me about my thoughts we both agreed on some things.

1) It's easily the best looking Acura product produced and will stand the test of time from a design perspective.

2) It would be REALLY cool if he could find a six-speed manual as they are pretty hard to come by AND Honda makes great do-it-yourself 'boxes.

Let me put it this way, my buddy loves a challenge.

So when I got the phone call that he booked his flight to Atlanta to snap the car up, I wasn't surprised. He found a lovely 2008 TL Type S with a standard transmission, coilovers, a cold-air intake and a J-pipe — possibly other mods I am forgetting/missing.

Tonight I went out in it for the first time and I have to say it was a brilliant purchase.

Undoubtedly he picked up what is likely to be one of the great Acuras of our time given the way things are progressing as of late.

Congratulations!

That said, what are your thoughts, Spies?

He picked an Acura over a BMW coupe with xDrive? unless saving money is the priority, I can never justify that decision.

I had an '09 TL Type S -- it was an okay car, but I hated it -- FWD sucks....I only had it a year before I went back to my BMW

I didn't know there was such a thing as a HUGE Acura fan.

I actually agree that it's the best thing Acura has made in recent years (NSX is not recent). I like how it looks and being a Honda it should go a while. The engine is good enough for enjoyment (270hp+ right?) and it's a practical car as well (unlike the Camaro or Corvette).

Yea it's not a BMW. Which means it won't cost an arm and a leg to maintain. Simply "not being a BMW" is a win for the Acura. BMWs might have redeeming features aplenty but they come at a cost.

Great choice, this car is reliable and really good looking, not bad performance for a large sedan. Acura hasn't produced a good looking car since that model year TL.

I dont quite understand why a person would cross shop a FWD sedan against RWD coupes but whatever floats your boat... I was never a fan of the TL Type S, I felt the power overwhelmed the front wheels (I preferred the regular TL). I was a big fan of the design of the TL that generation but over the years, the shape now seems a bit too "simplistic?", not sure... I just don't like it the way i used to.
