FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Is The All-New Infiniti Q30's INTERIOR Telling Us Something About The Future?

FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Is The All-New Infiniti Q30's INTERIOR Telling Us Something About The Future?
I don't think I'd be alone in saying that if there's one area where Infiniti needs work, it would be in the interior department. The materials are actually high quality but the problem is their design is so uninspired. But, I think that changed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).

That's because the Q30 is one of the brand's first cars that's showing a bit of change.

Instead of sticking to the tried and true formula of a large center stack with a Nissan-lifted series of navigation controls the Q30 seems to boast a more European-inspired interior. Note the way the dash is tiered and flows left to right?

Though I am not in Frankfurt and cannot confirm, it appears the screen is larger than the typical Infiniti screen and may even been in a wide format. Someone else aside from BMW is catching on! Note: Kia also featured a widescreen infotainment display in the Niro.

Other notable things I noticed in the Q30 would be its very minimalistic center console and one-piece, sporty looking seats. Check out that baseball glove-like stuff going on. Definitely interesting but I hated it in the TT and I hate it in this application too.

The good news is this though: Infiniti is shifting it's approach slowly but surely and it's clearly thinking and experimenting. Props!

Too many curves and ellipses IMHO

Looks like you're playing as Zerg in StarCraft.

I hate it, though it matches nicely the exterior which I also hate.

The whole things looks over-designed to me with bizarrely organic curves everywhere.

INFINITIi is bogus these days - can't tell the difference from a Hyundai with all the swirls and curves...
