UAW Makes Huge Gains: Claims Majority Of VW Workers In Favor Of German Style Works Council
A top United Auto Workers official says a majority of workers at Volkswagen’s assembly plant in Tennessee have signed cards favoring the union’s representation in creating a German-style works council at the plant.

Gary Casteel, a Tennessee-based regional director for the UAW, tells the Associated Press that the cards include a statement about wanting to join VW’s Global Works Council and supporting cooperative and collaborative relations with the company.

Casteel says the cards are as legally binding as an election by the workers at the plant in Chattanooga.

VW continues to dig their own grave. If these unions succeed here in VW's US plants they will no longer be competitive. This is the main reason they are looking at plants in Mexico because in Europe the unions have killed them.

I like what Volkswagon is doing with their cars however, if they go union, they are off my shopping list. Period.

Only a fool would support these lunch time pot smokers. If anyone had read any of the commentaries for many of the reasons Detroit is bankrupt, it's PARTIALLY because of the pensions they have to pay for the RETIRED UAW autoworkers (and fireman, police officers too). That was an interesting article in the Detroit News Sunday paper. VW-this will be a huge mistake.

The solution to this problem: Robots (but not the ones that become self-aware and take over the world like in the Terminator films).

Dear VW Workers in Tennessee:

I will be purchasing another vehicle soon.
The VW Passat TDI is on my shopping list. So is the BMW X5.

If you go with the UAW I will NOT buy the Passat. I am diametrically opposed to the "Union Philosophy" and will NEVER EVEN CONSIDER BUYING A UAW MADE VEHICLE.

I'm liking the idea of buying the new BMW X5 (NON UAW MADE IN SOUTH CAROLINA) even more since learning of your interest in signing up with the UAW.

Carsarefun - I agree. I'd be scratching any UAW built vehicle from my list too. Anyone remember when Chrysler fired several UAW workers last summer, only to be "forced" (yes - I said FORCED) to have to re-hire all those that were let go after their UAW rep filed a grievance against Chrysler. Chrysler lost in arbitration to the UAW and ALL of those fired auto workers had to be given their previous job with back pay and benefits. If you want to want a GREAT 4 minute video how they Detroit news station investigated this. What a sham!! Get drunk at work on LUNCH, get fired, get your job back with back pay. I guess the UAW really does back their members ;-))

That video was great. Thanks for posting.

Those jerks in the video will never get a chance to build anything for me. After many years of buying almost all UAW made vehicles I have now switched to buying the "NON-UNION LABEL exclusively."
