If BMW's 2-Series Gran Coupe Looks Like THIS Would You Put It On Your Short List?
The long rumored 2 Series Gran Coupe has yet to be spotted in testing, but we'd be highly surprised if BMW did not go after the CLA and A3 sedan with its own small sports sedan. The company is seemingly entering all niches in which its German competitors have offerings, even niches with much smaller sales potential than the small sedan space, so we expect to see a 2 Series "Gran Coupe" sedan after the Coupe and Convertible 2 Series are released. Artist Theophilus Chin has rendered what he thinks the 2 Series Gran Coupe may resemble, drawing heavily upon the nearly fully uncovered M235i Coupe we showed you four months ago.

The 2 Series Gran Coupe would be a 4 door version of the Coupe model, but with a sleeker/elongated roofline and roomier back seating (much like the 6 Series Gran Coupe relates to the 6 Series Coupe). It will share the engine/transmission/model lineup with the Coupe and Convertible.

Nope. A sedan is a sedan, no matter what fancy name you give it.

I just don't think BMW is making enough different models.

I'm sure I'll get deboosted to hell for saying this, but I'm about sick of BMW at this point. So many redundant and lookalike models. As a Tier 1 Prestige marque, I don't need them to be as ever-present as Toyota or GM.

It's so confusing with all their models. what's the difference. They are trying to pander to ALL segments, rather than doing what they do best - make performance cars with stellar handling. Now they are trying to lure every age, every Cadillac owner. The 5er use to be the jewel of that category. There are many fine cars out there that surpass the 5er now. I once owned a 5 series years ago. Now they put the crappy run-flat tires and have a vehicle that feels heavy. They are nice cars but not the "great" cars for what they were truly known for.

If the 2-series range is priced right, it will be a hit. BMW needs to hit a younger demographic with the 1 series, 2 series and i3 autos.

Nope-at this size I prefer a 2dr coupe.

Nope, in this segment I'd take the new A3 sedan. The A3 sedan is better looking.

Let's face it. If you don't have at least one BMW on your short list, you probably have never driven one.

No, what BMW needs are sedans and coupes that are exceptionally balanced and fun to drive. Otherwise their brand will turn to dust kicked up by 2-3 ton beasts. That the new 3 series no longer rules the segment betrays the rot at the core of the apple

I think it looks good. It's a weird niche, the only real competitor is the CLA and that seems to be doing well.

The A3 is around same size but will have more interior space because it's not a small 4 door coupe but rather a small sedan.

Either way, with rear-wheel drive this will be the best drivers car of the bunch in normal guise.

If they make an M2 GC then that vs CLA AMG and RS3 sedan should be interesting.

This recent obsession with BMW naming conventions and niche body styles and the corresponding useless uninformed comments makes me wonder if this site really is for auto enthusiasts or car group therapy. It's starting to read more like unflattering and uninteresting celebrity gossip but directed at cars instead. A real auto enthusiast would care more about some insight into when and how Lexus is going to upgrade their engine selections including a hybrid for the new IS. Or how about an analysis of BMW's ZF 8-speed automatic vs. corresponding transmissions from Mercedes, Lexus and Audi? How and why does the A4 2.0 manage to get only 211 hp from its well-established 2.0 liter 4 while BMW's new 2.0 liter gets 240 hp? Not so much about BMW's "bimmerang" or whether Lexus makes cars for the bourgeoisie.
