VIDEO: WHOA! Consumer Reports Drives The All-New Cadillac CTS And Claims It's Better Than The Germans!
Get your flamesuits ready, folks.

Consumer Reports recently got behind the wheel of the all-new Cadillac CTS and didn't pull punches. Almost right out of the gate the reviewer claims that it's actually a better sport sedan than its European counterparts from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Of course this is a big deal! Consumer Reports, while some question its preogatives, is mostly in line with consumers — makes sense given its name, right?

In my opinion their one of the few publications that tells it how it is and without any bias. So, I like them.

That said, even IF the all-new CTS drives better over the Germans, would YOU give it a chance?

Redesigned for 2014, the Cadillac CTS is longer yet lighter. Forget about Cadillac's old-school image. This is a very enjoyable car to drive, especially in V Sport trim. Too bad the Cue controls are frustrating and distracting.

It wouldn't surprise me. The driving dynamics in the ATS were at least on par with zee Germans. The CTS is what turned Cadillac around, they probably went all out on it.

Cadillac could not afford for the CTS NOT to be on par or better than the Germans. However, remember, the ATS was touted as a better handler than anything in the class, but when all things were considered, there were too many demerits to really rate it at the top of the class. So, we'll see as true head-to-heads come to fruition.

For the record, I love the front-end styling of the CTS, but the rear half and the interior leave me cold. From a styling perspective, I'd take any of the Germans over the CTS. (Not to mention that rear legroom is smaller than the outgoing model).

I think the exterior design is good, except for the rear, they really make no effort to change the tail light design when designing new models.

It's just the interior that leaves me unimpressed. It seems the materials are better but it still looks like a very generic "Asian automotive" design.

I also think it's good that it handles really well, just hope they don't alienate the usual, older, Cadillac crowd who place a large emphasis on ride comfort.

Overall an example of how far American cars have come in the last 5-7 years.

I like it. I like the driving dynamics, I like the look, I like the cool tail lights which link to Cadillac Heritage and I like the interior.

As for not alienating the "usual, older, Cadillac crowd", I think that's the whole frickin' point.

Yeah, alienate your core customer base, real smart.

So, since you like the driving dynamics you've obviously driven one, can you elaborate for us, what exactly did you like?

Also, can you elaborate what you like about the interior, I haven't sat in one, then again, neither have a lot of people since it's only really been given to the press thus far.

And try not to be too sensitive :)

So what else is Govenment Motors going to say? Would claiming they are better than Hyundai or Kia benefit them at all?

Or maybe Government Motors should brag that the Caddy is better than the Russian AvtoVAZ cars?

Do you trust anything the Government says or does? So much for anything that Government Motors claims.

The “Government Motors” crap is older than Time itself, though even older is the saying that, if you don’t have anything relevant to say, then say nothing.

Whoa, hold on there Wombat - are you saying that you concluded the interior of the CTS was "Asian automotive" design and you've never even sat in one? Sorry, I won't be able to respond to any of your questions until you actually sit in one, push some of the buttons, test the cupholders, etc.

You're a bit confused, I can comment on design by looking at a photo, I don't have to be in the car.

If I had said the quality of the materials or the way the materials feel that's completely different, then yes, I would fist have to sit in it to make judgement.

Saying that you like the driving dynamics without driving one is stretching it a bit but every article I read about it is positive so I am assuming, that for the most part, it must a good drivers car, just like the reviews for the ATS.

...but you DID comment on the quality of the interior:
"...It seems the materials are better"

If you never sat in it how can materials "seem" better just from pictures??

The ATS has spent the summer getting beaten up in comparisons by the Lexus IS F-Sport.
Like an NFL team, Cadillac can't afford to go down 0-2. the pressure is on the CTS.
I think it's up to the challenge.

guess again. EVERYONE agreed the cadillac ATS had the superior chassis/handling. where in lost was in refinement of interior, space and such. this CTS CLEARLY does NOT have those issues. i would take this over the godzilla inspired designs of the GS any day.

well, enthusiastx11, the ATS has also been criticized for unrefined engines, unrefined transmissions, and infuriating CUE technology. Space may be an issue as the rear legroom has decreased from the outgoing model (almost 2 inches less than the Germans, per preliminary specs).

Show me where ANYONE said the ATS had better handling than the IS F-Sport. C&D had the ATS a distant last compared to the 335i and Lexus F-Sport. Called the Lexus suspension ability "Miraculous".

The transmission was "More seamless" than the ATS. The turn-in was "crisper". The ride more "Imperturbable". The V6 power was "smoother". The car was just better. Road and Track and Motor Trend came up with similar conclusions.

But your spin doctoring is impressive, if woefully inaccurate. You should work for Obama!

too bad the IS has the same engine as the 2006 model. literally no changes. while the IS350 is a player, the IS250 is 90% of sales and its 184lb-ft torque engine is such a dog. it doesn't play in the same league as the 328i or the C-class.

Lexus is very happy with it's sales. Hard to find an IS around. Some cars, like the Cadillac, need high power to even enter the class, and even then, struggle to sell. Lexus not so much.

Lexus chose to have two cars in the $30k class, with the venerable cornerstone Lexus ES, so the IS will never sell like the C-Class or 3-series, which are the only sedan offerings in that range from them. But it will be interesting to see how Mercedes handles the bottom-feeding $29k CLA, and what that does to the C-Class sales and pricing.

I am surprised and pleased that the reviews, overall, have been as good as they are. I want Cadillac to succeed. 10 years ago I wouldn't have even considered their cars, but they will be on my list next time I buy.

I have a 2014 CTS Sedan, Premium trim, 3.6L, on order. Upgraded red paint and red+black interior. Can't wait!

This car looks really nice and the reviews are all positive. But I'm afraid the brand is still recovering from two decades of horrendous cars that only old people were buying.
