CAR WARS! Alfa Romeo 4C vs. Porsche Cayman — Who'd You Rather?
You know once and a while I find myself on a website like TMZ or flipping through the gossip rags. What can I say, some of that stuff is entertaining. I love coming to one of those stories that puts two folks together and simply asks: "Who'd you rather?"

Well, we're going to do the same thing and put two cars head-to-head. First 'go around we'll have the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C tango with the Porsche Cayman.

They're both mid-engined, sharp looking and objects of my affection. Though I have obviously not had the chance to drive the 4C — this may be a bit premature — I have to say that it would need to be a pretty miserable auto for me to not want one. Either that or I have to be incapable of physically fitting inside.

BUT it's Italian. So, that means it will likely be lacking in certain areas. To be more specific, build quality and possible reliability troubles. Hell, the damn thing may just burst into flames for no good reason.

The Porsche, on the other hand, I know I am getting magnificent product that's built solid and will not likely self immolate. Sounds like a win, right?

Well, boys and girls, I'll leave that up to you.

So, who'd you rather?

The all-new Alfa Romeo 4C or Porsche Cayman?

**I'll make this a bit interesting as these two new videos of the 4C just hit the web. Sounds pretty gnarly!

The heart says Alfa (had a Duetto) and the mind says Porsche (had a Boxster S). The Alfa's electrics were always a problem but its design and twin cam were very sweet. The Porsche was rock solid reliable, fast but I had to double the speed limit to even approach having fun and feeling I was controlling the car not the other way around. Current AUTOWEEK issue however does have an article on 911 engine failures and apparently Porsche's poor handling and disregard for loyal buyers complaints...something to think about.

The 4C seems more exotic and potentially as much fun to drive as the the Porsche. As far as reliability, fit and finish, it remains to be seen along with the driving experience. But it is sharp looking especially when placed side by side with the Cayman, which is a great car for sure.

I would give Alfa a chance if initial driving impression was favorable/comparable compared to Cayman. It's not a lifetime commitment. If it didn't work out, a trade in for the Cayman would be easy enough to accomplish.
