Nissan Says New Maxima On Its Way - What Would It Take To Put It On Your Shopping List?
The market for large, front-wheel-drive sedans has cooled significantly since the glory days of the 1980s and 1990s, but that decline, largely brought about by bigger, better-appointed midsize sedans, isn’t giving Nissan second thoughts about staying in the segment.

The next-generation Maxima’s debut next year in the U.S. is “a no-brainer,” a top Nissan executive says.

“Maxima is a big (profit) driver for us in North America, but probably more importantly it is one of the key drivers to the brand, so it was never really a debate (whether to do another Maxima),” Andy Palmer, executive vice president-Nissan, tells WardsAuto in an interview here.

Would never consider a Maxima as long as the Q50 is around. Yes, it's more costly, but RWD, more power, better handling, and better styling is a no-brainer to me.

ditch the CVT first of all, but that won't happen most likely

To get me excited over a Maxima would include changing the recipe up a bit; make it a RWD! Sure it would cannibalize Infiniti G sales a bit... but thats exactly what the Altima did to the Maxima! Make it a RWD and offer an optional stick! Bring the Z spirit to the sedan!!

Better, non gimmicky/cheesy styling, no CVT, and an AWD option.

What would it take:

Manual Transmission
RWD or Rear-Wheel biased AWD
A $2,000 - $5,000 price reduction
300+ hp engine

Wow, auto spies seriously needs to start screening new users... @ChadB really buddy???

Anyway Nissan, give the Maxima AWD, the power of the Z, and a design that looks worthy of a $50k sticker

Sorry but none of that could happen, I think the formula they have for the Maxima is perfect which is why it sells so well and is a no brainer for Nissan to do again. No other standard car company moves a 30k+ sedan like Nissan does the Maxima and if they add any of those things the price tag would be unattractive. The Maxima has to stay the Maxima and offer what the Q50 can't and if people want the Z engine, RWD or AWD, manual transmission or anything else above the Maxima's pay grade then the Q50 will take it from there.
