The Chevrolet Impala Goes Where NO GM Product Has Gone Before — To The TOP!
The all-new Chevrolet Impala is one of those cars that does the unthinkable. Why? Well, that's because it seems at first glance that General Motors paid closer attention in the development of this product.

Though this review is from The Detroit News, which **may** be a bit bias for obvious reasons, we have to be straightforward: even Consumer Reports recognized the all-new Impala as an outstanding all-new vehicle. I remember Agent 001 being particularly impressed with the Impala when it made its New York Auto Show debut.

And when you think about the competitive set it will go up against, namely the Ford Taurus, Toyota Avalon and Hyundai Azera, it's looking quite good on paper.

That said, I'll let you explore the rest of the publication's review.

The re-engineered 2014 Chevrolet Impala isn’t just new, attractively styled and comfortable to ride in.

It’s the first American-branded car in at least 20 years to be rated the top new sedan by Consumer Reports magazine.

In fact, the Consumer Reports score of 95 for the new Impala was higher than all other cars except the much higher-priced Tesla Model S hatchback and the BMW 135i coupe. Neither of these is a sedan.

The full-size, five-passenger Impala also received the top, overall, five-out-of-five-stars rating from the federal government for occupant protection in safety crash testing...

I have no doubt that this is a really good car, for the class. It's really too bad they didn't do something a bit more with the styling. It still just passes as a rental car, both inside and outside. IMO, almost every car it competes with, especially the Cadenza, Avalon, Azera, 300, and even the Taurus, look a class above.

Right on cidflekke. Rental fleets will be getting their fill of the new Impala. Looks typical Chevrolet all right, Government Motors' Chevrolet. Looks fugly actually when you look it long enough.

I disagree. I think they have a good design and that the car looks American and distinctively Chevrolet.

Right, and you've outlined the exact issues with the design. A nicely designed car would hopefully elicit more than a "good" from buyers. There have been very few "American" sedans that have blazed new paths in car design. And sedans that are "distinctively Chevrolet" have been distinctively bland - name me one Chevy sedan that has been truly a great design.
With all the goodness that seems to be built into this new Impala (and what's with that horrid name), Chevy really had an opportunity to absolutely topple the competition. Design is the first thing that catches attention and looking like a typical rental car just won't cut it. Can you imagine the waves a car would make if it had the capabilities of the Impala and the design of the Lincoln MKZ? A car like that would absolutely be setting the industry on it head.

GM has to have a painting of the Impala? What will an actual photo reveal that they are terrified of?

Your mother behind the wheel, presumably.
