SPIED: Is The BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe's DESIGN Too Close For Comfort With The 3-Series GT?
At a recent press drive I had the chance to thoroughly look over the all-new BMW 3-Series GT. And, I drove the soon-to-be-at-showrooms 328 GT xDrive and 335 GT xDrive.

Since inception, and the retrospective disaster that was the 5-Series GT, folks have been pretty hands off about this product. It's controversial and, frankly, its looks are not appealing to many.

So when I heard about an upcoming 4-Series Gran Coupe I was floored. While the 6-Series GC didn't look so coupelike, I will be the first to admit it is a gorgeous looking product at the end of the day. Theoretically, the 4 GC should follow suit, right?

Well, after seeing the latest spy images I am not so sure. That's because the 4-Series Gran Coupe looks pretty close to the 3-Series GT. Sure the hatch is designed differently but it's B-Pillar is REALLY bulbous looking and not slinky at all.

A four-door coupe is suppose to be impractical but sexy, like a G-string. It's not supposed to look like a fat chick's thong.

That said, I just have to ask: is the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe's DESIGN TOO close for comfort with the 3-Series GT?

The GT rearend just isn't cutting the mustard. Still have the "permenant" NAV screen always showing; rough riding run-flat tires and more confusion across the model lines.

Maybe BMW is hoping the 4-series will cannibalize the 3-series enough that the increased profit margins make up for the costs of building an extra model altogether. One thing is for sure, a 4-series "gran coupe" will win over just about NOBODY that an M-sport 3-series wouldn't already have.

Just wait a decade you'll have BMW 3.5 series, 4.5 series, 5.5 series, 6.5 series. Just to fill in those increasing gaps. And every time you fill one, two take its place, it's wild!

Where's a Z4 replacement? That would at least cover a different demographic.

Wait, let me get this straight. First, they separate the 3er because it's a 4 door and introduce the a 4er as a coupe. And now, they've added a 4er GT that has 4 door and a hatch? .....

The 4 Series is in no way special. It looks like a 3 Series coupe, so the renaming was pointless. The 3GT looks ungainly and the 4GC looks like a 3 Series with strange C (D?) pillar styling. BMW is niche crazy and it's diluting the brand.
