AWESOME or AWFUL: Are Dealer-Issued EU Plates A GREAT Idea Or Too Kitchy For YOUR Taste?

AWESOME or AWFUL: Are Dealer-Issued EU Plates A GREAT Idea Or Too Kitchy For YOUR Taste?
One of the greatest feelings is walking out of a new car showroom with the contract fully executed. Finally, the arduous process of negotiating a deal is OVER!

Now, it's finally time to claim your wheels after dealing with a salesperson and a finance manager. When your all-new car is pulled around though you notice it is slathered with a bunch of dealer-related promotional crap.

Not only is it sporting the standard issue dealer plate, there's a dealer sticker on the back trumping where you just sent your hard earned dollars.

Interesting enough, one SoCal-based dealer decided to get a bit innovative though with its marketing schtick. Rather than give buyers their new auto with your typical temp tag, it provides buyers with an EU-inspired plate sporting the dealer's name.

Photographed by our own Agent 001, below you'll see what it looks like.

So, is this little nifty take on the dealer plate AWESOME or AWFUL?

When I buy a car, I stipulate in the contract that it must not have any non-manufacturer-issued changes or additions. Not even a license plate "protector" with the dealer's name. If they want to negotiate a separate advertising deal with me, and talk about compensating me, then that's their prerogative.

I think it is a creative solution by the dealer that should get the attention of others.

But don't get me started on dealer advertisements on cars. I usually special order my cars, as they typically do not have on the lot specifically what I am looking for. I always stipulate not to stick a dealer emblem on the trunk lid, which they usually comply with. I don't mind the dealer adds on the license plate while the temp plate is on. When my plates come in, I usually pick them up with my other car and put them on myself. Saves me time since I would have to go back and take the ugly dealer frame off anyway.

I can't believe the amount of drones out there that keep the cheap dealer license plate on. So ugly.

License plate frames I mean.

BTW - in some states, including mine, it is illegal to cover the state name with a frame. That means 90% of cars out there are breaking the law.

I purchased a new car several years ago. After finalizing the deal, I went outside with the salesman and found they had drilled holes in my trunk lid, and screwed on the dealer name plate. I, calmly, asked the salesman if we could go back and see the finance manager, at which time I picked up my paperwork and tore it up (the look on their faces was priceless..sorry) . I advised them no one drills holes in my new car, and left.

drilling holes is way too far, not many dealers around here do that thankfully
