Toyota's Hopes New Platform Strategy Will Remedy Plague Of Recalls For Automaker
Toyotas of the future should be lighter, quicker, cheaper to build and better to drive, according to Mitsuhisa Kato, member of the Toyota board. Unveiling a new platform strategy, which will underpin all new Toyota models starting with the next generation Prius in 2015, Kato said it was intended as a way of “making ever better cars.”

The new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) is a response to the wave of safety recalls which have engulfed the company’s products in the last decade as well as increasing competition from Japanese rival Honda and stiff competition from Ford and GM in the US.

All auto companies are following VW's MQB's architecture strategy, "lighter, quicker, cheaper to build". I can hear the haters just like they did with VW when they introduce the concept, all TOYOTAS and LEXUS are now the same just like VWS, AUDIs and LAMBOS are the same. Right?

Another irrelevant commentary in headline.
The unusual aspect is the Corolla just had a major platform redesign and another major redesign will come with the next model update. Usually Toyota does this every other model update. Must be something outstanding to make back to back platform changes. Might be the way to spread Prius specialness to more of the family.
