The 2010 Malibu was a big improvement from the Malibu of the 1980s and 1990s, but they were never competitive against the Camry or Accord. The reason why they sold well in 2010 - 2012 was because i) the press highlighted its improvement from older Malibu characteristics and ii) the Japanese had supply issue with their EQ/nuclear fiasco and the Thailand flood. Now that Toyota and Honda are back to their normal production capacity, and Ford releasing their Fusion, Chevy's midsize sedan will settle where they should be, a distant 4th or 5th.
