Hardcore Video Shootout: 2014 BMW M5 vs 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG -Which Is The King Kong Of Super Sedans?
This week on Head to Head, two German sport sedans with supercar-beating performance take on the dyno, the track, and the mountain road to see which offers the better combination of sport, luxury, and performance.

These particular versions of the 2014 BMW M5 and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG are equipped with special packages that boost performance even further, called the Competition Package for the Beemer and the S Model for the AMG. These performance packages bring with them more power, slightly revised suspension tuning, mild styling tweaks, and, in the case of the E63 AMG S Model, Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Mercedes took down the M5 with the previous E63/M5 versions. So the fact that BMW improved the M5 and Mercedes updated the E63, and the Benz came out on top again really says something.

I just drove the E63 amg and competiton package M5 and I disagree with the feel and drive of the two cars. The M5 feels with some much direction and purpose almost as though you are connected to the car, whereas the E63 S-performance feels more numb. The E63 definitely gets the nod in the luxury department , yet from the performance aspect there is no contest as the M5 is just about perfect with the Competition package

I have to agree with one of the previous comments ... the previous E63 AMG was a much better driving car than the previous M5. The handling, steering feel, and power were all superior, and that was when they were both RWD. The latest generation AMG maintains the lead, and this is due mostly to BMW's vehicle control systems not being able to translate the road to the driver, rather isolating the driver from the road. I still can't tell whether its the steering, the suspension, or what, but BMW hasn't been able to give you the sense of control that you expect from a driver's car.

I never really trusted that fat guy's review, he always seems to say stupid things and emphasize on the wrong stuff. I think I need to read/watch another review from someone I trust more, like Chris Harris or Carlo Lagos.
PS: I'll be happy to own either car...

BMW4ever please. You are no car journalist. The m5 has received several complaints about it being too heavy and not the drivers car it used to be. Too isolated and just not really what you come to expect from M. So excuse me for taking your view of the e63 as a grain of salt. You are no more than a BMW fanboy who loves anything with a BMW logo. This is not the first publication that has stated the e63 was the better car. Recently I saw the jaguar vs. e63 comparo. Guess which car was considered the benchmark in this class. The AMG. You are equal to german nut except he puts all his faith in Audi. The 3 series isn't that great unless you option it up. I wouldn't be surprised if the next c takes the crown in its seg also. We already know the interior will be better than the 3. If the next gen M4 isn't GREAT. Stick a pin in it.
