Nissan VP Says BR-Z & FR-S Are Designed For 50 Year Olds! Do You Agree?
Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer has all but confirmed that his brand’s answer to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ – a two-door he said was “designed for a 50-year-old” – could be coming as soon as next month’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Peter Lyon first reported on a smaller, lighter, and more stylish sports car two months ago. Code-named Z35, the car will likely be powered by a detuned version of the existing 370Z’s (Z34) 330-horse 3.7-liter V-6, plus, an all-new, more powerful 2.5-liter, direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder. Don’t be surprised if Nismo, the automaker’s performance brand, develops an even more powerful, better-handling model.Nissan Z35 side 300x199 image A rendering of the Z35 is shown below.

Is he kidding or have been drinking, at least?

Soooo....the Versa, Cube, Sentra, Juke, Rogue was make for the young hipsters of today? Really?

At this time, I can't imagine what Nissan will offer to effectively compete against the BR-Z/FR-S. A smaller Z coupe? It would be a better plan to just mass-produce the Juke-R.

Apparently you can image it, as you stated at least one possibility of a BRZ competitor from Nissan.

BRZ was not designed for those at or near 50. It was designed for early to mid twenties year olds, but priced for early to mid thirty year olds.

I think he is right. It is a second car, so somebody who is fairly far along in their career or who has savings is the customer, not some 20 something entering the workforce and a 30 something who probably has a family.

They are good cars and good value for the money. Being a car enthusiast is not about age its a life style. If a car puts a smile on your face buy it at any age. I'm 69 years old and over the years I have had MG's, an Alfa Duetto, a 1965 Pontiac GTO, a 1970 SS454 Chevelle, three Corvettes, two Vipers, an M3, a Porsche Boxster, a 300ZX twin turbo, two Subaru STi's, two Miata's and a 1934 Ford hot rod. I am waiting on delivery of a 2014 Corvette Z51 Stingray...just don't tell the wife who doesn't know yet. True enthusiasts buy them, sell them and don't put labels on others who share their passion.

WOW!! That's why Nissan is sucking bad. Top brass has ZERO clue. Only 50 year olds love the fact that Nissan is designing cars named "Leaf" and steering racks NOT EVEN CONNECTED TO A RACK (read Q50)!!!

how about just producing a better Z ? what's there is old, overweight and nowhere competitively.

You should drive one. While the Z is overweight and showing a little gray, it's still an amazing and rewarding car to drive when you have the space.

Outside of Nissan's other performance car(GT-R) and the "plastic fantastic", it is still the best performance coupe on the market.

So he is developing an "answer" to something "designed for 50 year olds." I have no option but to interpret that as Nissan designing a car for 50 year olds. Yay?

Headline: "Nissan VP spouts out Gibberish"

The Nissan VP is bashing the FRS/BRZ because the 370Z is ugly and way overpriced and he wishes the Nissan Z was still relevant. Nissan needs to go back the the 240Z mentality: classically gorgeous looks, simplicity, and affordability. Between the Scion FRS and the 15 Mustang, the 370Z is in deep caca.
