AMERICAN CARS VERSUS EUROPEAN CARS

matthew and jovi and anybody who thinks euro cars are better than american cars, your about to get proved wrong.you guys obviosly dont know anything about cars(but you think you do)lambos and ferraris and maserati's are all italian, and a viper is american(dodge).corvette z06 0-60 in 3.5 sec.lets see here, seems to be a little faster than bmw's m5/m6's 4.5 sec doesnt, and so does the viper srt10's 3.9 sec.chryslers 300-c srt8 0-60 is 5.1 sec faster than the jag s-type r's 5.3 sec.what about the z06 3.5 sec versus the sl 63 amg's 4.2 sec.gee, lets go on,the merc slk 55 amg's 4.9 sec doesnt even compare to the mustang gt500's 4.5 sec.what about the volvo c70,cant touch the pontiac g6 gtp's 6 sec.saab 9-5 cant touch chargers 5 sec. hey what about the cooper s's 6.5 sec,oh the cobalt ss beat it at 6.1 sec. and yeah, merc has all of the 63 amgs, and bmw has all of the m's,and audi has all the S/RS's but the corvette has EVERY ONE OF THEM BEAT.want more, astom martin has v8 vantage's 4.8 and 4.7 sec db9 beat by mustangs 4.5.gee this could go on for a long time, but i think you guys just realized you got proved wrong.

all of those american cars are not only faster, they're about half the price,if not more, than the euro cars.

was that written in English? Get a life.....just because one car is "faster" than another doesn't make it a better drive or a better car for that matter. I'd love to see some good American cars come out (and in American, I mean actually built on our shores), but it just isn't happening. They seem to get more lame as time goes on.

crngeneer16- The american cars are 1/2 the price for a reason. Sit in any one of them and llok at the quality of materials and assembly. 0-60 is only one aspect of the equation.

crngeneer16 - you have a point here - those American cars are faster. However, that is all that they are, just faster. The MB's are much more luxurious. Also one problem is that you fail to mention the malibus, impalas, stratus, etc. Don't these things still run with a 4-speed auto. You see your biggest mistake is that you aren't looking at the whole picture here. I won't talk about the Corvette, but the others are just pure acceleration. There are a couple of good American cars out there: Corvette, most of them are not even comparable to their friends from Europe or Japan. Have you ever read one of those comparison tests that websites and magazines do, ever noticed why even the newest American cars are in the last place (happens almost always)?

Please be fair in judgement, I am not saying that European cars are better just because they are European they are better because they are designed better. I would say that American cars are better if they were designed better as well. American cars are way behind in the engineering department otherwise they would have had better results now. In the end people want to get their money's worth and driving an Malibu isn't the best option.

Oh yeah one more point: In a sports car Speed isn't everything -the drive is. What is a good sports car if it can't handle well? Everything must be good not just the acceleration.

Why even argue with crngeneer16, you know this guy is 16 or possibly even younger. If not, he sure types like someone who is still learning how to write. I agree with phantom330..."was that written in English?" I can barely understand any of his statements. Missing punctuations, run on sentences, fragments, the list goes on. I know posts don't have to be technical papers, but atleast write it so readers can understand. Half the time I don't know what he is comparing to what.

But the parts I did make out, times are not the only factor to a vehicles quality. European design cannot be beat, and let's see the American's try to balance a car 50/50.

psst ... did anyone see a rabbit pass by? I am hunting wabbits .. I cant even believe that autospies would allow someone to post such an inane article ... The writer brought a corvette into the picture but forgot to mention that the 0 - 60 time of 3.5 seconds was achieved by a $70k corvette Z06 .. Since we are on this subject why dont we bring back a comparison of the puegeot or the alfa romeo or the triumph ... lets all take a trip to fantasy land and see if anything of this article makes any sense

STUPID BOY
0-60 times can and is usually used as a huge marketing tool by US manufacturers, by making a Very Tall First Gear you can go 0-60 much quicker and then brag about it.

(0-60 used to be some form of performance measure for All Civilian Use Vehicles until the resulting race turned it into one Cheat Fest)

The ability of a car to Handle Very well is much more important than it's 0-100 time, the american trend is RETRO huge horsepower and speed figures but with very little emphasis on the ability to go round corners so when you race the little european car from the lights yes you may step ahead for a few secs but you will be MOST DEFINATELY overtaken as soon as the nearest curve is in sight.
I wish i had video footage of all the crashes ive seen of american cars trying to race me on the I-95 or I-5

You miss the whole point in even owning a car. Might as well strap a rocket to your back and propel yourself 0-60.

Build quality is 100X better than domestics. Corvette is awesome but the build is still not as good as a BMW. IMO the build quality in a base euro/import is still better than a high end American car. It is not a 'diss' or a 'bash' towards the American's because they do have quite stunning cars. It's just the reality that we all have to face.

Also, on a track a domestic would probably get slaughtered by the well balanced design concept the Euro's have in place. Whereas the RAW power of the domestics will make donuts from dusk till dawn, 24/7. It simply just wouldn't stick.

I have to pick European over domestics anyday. Even Japanese over Domestics.

corvette's quality of materials is still pretty crap.
doesn't compare in anyway to a european car, i mean here the ethos is different.
having a big car isn't a sign of wealth, so big cars like a ford crown vic aren't sold here.
a quality, well engineered car is better, hence renault putting a huge amount of effort into NCAP ratings and interior quality.
the renault clio would take probably every single american interior and beat it.
oh and american cars can't go round corners, a pick-up truck based suv is cool, and are in general, rubbish.
but they are cheap, and that is what's keeping them alive.

crngeneer16:
Please-That was a very poorly written article. And you must not know anything about cars, as jtgct suggested. You think Saab is Swedish, Aston (not "astom" Martin and Jaguar are British. The Chrysler 300c is more European than American. Most of those cars don't even compete with each other. The Volvo C70 does not compete with the Pontiac G6. The Mercedes-Benz SLK55 dosen't compete with the Shelby GT500. And the 300c SRT8 dosen't compete with the Jaguar S-Type R. And they're BOTH AMERICAN.
Please, read all the articles on wikicars.org, then read the dictionary.

Somebody must have hit crngeneer16 on the head. Who cares if American cars are faster? They are the worst cars in market in all terms ( only acceleration) . Look at the interior of the corvette and you will notice how cheap it is. Full of plastic and the technology is beaten by a 10 year old BMW. Fast, yes, but good, no. BTW all the comparisons you have put are not related to each other at all. Why arent the sales proving your point about how good american cars are? because ppl know that when they r buying an american car, they will change it in less than 3 years time. Go learn the full facts then post a proper article...

I'd much rather have a SLIGHTLY slower European car than a cheaply built American car any day, no matter the price. Everything shouldn't be based on how fast a car is though. The BMW 330i has less power and torque than most of it's competition but it's still regarded as the best all arounder. Also, this is the most immature, poorly written "article" ever to come through this site, why the heck did it get posted?

huu76.

Your last comment was one of the most illogical and uneducated ever on Autospies.

A Ford F-150 has a better interior than the cars coming out of Germany? So how come you never told us earlier that you were a comedian?

You consider a F-150 SVT a car worth commenting on? your material is classic.

Eurotrash. Good one. Where can we see your shows?

Me Eurotrash?

Or is that you don't know what makes a good car?

Do cheap plastic interiors make a good car? How about 'performance' cars that have leaf-spring suspension? You know, 'sports' cars that are designed to go only in a straight line? How about bland designs that don't stir the emotions?

If you consider that perfectly acceptable in the 21st century, then fine.

Me? I look for more than 0-60. Any car with the right gearing can achieve quick times. I look for the whole picture. Great styling, good handling, build-quality and up-to-date technology.

If that makes me Eurotrash, then fine, I'm Eurotrash.

If you think going fast in a straight line makes your car 'better' than another car, then you are trailer-trash.

Get some brain cells.

Hilarious when somebody writes rubbish like this post yet never comes back to defend their not so well thought out logic, or lack thereof. This site is getting worse with stupid trash like this.

Do we really need stoned 16 year old writing articles on their dads computer about nonsense? I thought this site had a little more class than that. Obviously not anymore.

Will- I manage my time a bit differently. If there is a issue of some sort I call my advisor, set up a time and a loaner. I am in and out in about 10 mins at the appointment time. Add 10 mins to pickup and I have spent 20 mins for a visit. Considering I may go in for an issue sat 3 times over 3 years, I have lost a whopping 1 hour of my time. So as you can see that is pretty trivial. If you can’t spare that much time in 3 years you got bigger issues. To wait for service at the dealer is simply inefficient.

Still using your math for a visit every 3 months (which is a pretty high figure BTW) then you end up wasting a whopping 4 hours over 3 years. Still a low overall figure, you waste that much time in the line at Starbucks each year.

Find another reason to like Lexus, the service issues don't add up.

What a silly conversation... which is "better" - Japanese Cars, American Cars, or European Cars. Kind of like asking which is "better" - a Beer, Wine or a Martini. Well, unfortunately "better" means different things to different people. So before you write a silly blanket statement like "...Japanese cars are not the best. Nor American. Nothing offers the unbelievable owners' experience of a European car..." you may want to define "better".

Does better mean faster?
Does better mean more money in your pocket book?
Does better mean more reliable?
Does better mean more expensive?
Does better mean more rare?
Does better mean bigger?
Does better mean more sales?
Does better encompase all of the above?
Define Better!
Many would argue that "better" is a matter of taste and therefore cannot be measured.

jeremy clarkson reviewed it, hated it.
he pulled off the glove box, stuck his finer in the gaps in the dashboard, moved the steering wheel and nothing happened (crappest steering ever) it has no feel, no tactility, it is a terrible car.
any car on leaf springs is generally not very good.

lol...this kid has to be like 10...if he gets so infuriated over little figures...he's got no grasp of what a car really is...and while were at this fact...heres a comparison kind of like one u would make...i love motorcycles...put a 1000cc bike up against a 7000cc z06...and the z06 will get its ass handed to it...and the price difference is what? 60 grand? (hp difference is about 350) not to mention that bikes are way more fun to ride than driving cars...oh...btw...even american bikes are shit...especially harleys...and buell...which is owned by harleys...go get a jap sportbike...and the technology is amazing...and they last...a very, very, very, very long time.

just thot i'd give u some of ur own medicine...if ur allowed to compare a z06 to an m5 n m6...then im allowed to compare a z06 to a superbike.

have fun with those figures btw...

Hi everyone, Reading a lot of these post I’m wondering? Is there a American production car that even comes close to the European cars? I am American and hate beating them down! but demand quality and performance.
