Have We Learned ANYTHING? Americans Buying Gas Guzzling Trucks And SUVs At Record Pace
Gas prices are now down to almost $3 a gallon and Americans are buying big pickups and SUVs at a pace the industry hasn’t seen since before the recession. Which is great news especially for the Detroit three.

American automakers make bigger profit margins on pickups and large SUVs than on smaller cars and the trend is expected to continue with auto sales on track to top 15.6 million for 2013, which would be the strongest tally since 2007.

Matt, PMSing is all that poster does. Stick around, you'll see a lot more of it.

We do NOT need to be protected against ourselves!! Could we stop PMSing over vehicular choice? LET PEOPLE DRIVE WHAT THEY WANT TO DRIVE! If they want to fork out the $$ for gas LET THEM! We're either a free society or we are a Gestapo state.

"We do NOT need to be protected against ourselves!!" Tell that to the Ancient Romans. If you don't learn from history you are bound to repeat it.

Free Society? Rape was considered once a "Freedom". And according to you glutting out the earth's resources is also a "Freedom". It's exactly that type of mindset, "The world is here for me" type of mindset, that brought down the Romans. It's not PMSing... It's using your brain and considering the future.

EPA estimates the average commute is 16 miles for Americans. So, 32 miles round trip. Trucks and SUVs are getting 20+ hwy mpg these days (when driven properly)so $3-5 in gas is still cheaper than a bus or train fare in many cases and the time savings /convenience/freedom have to figure in as well. Also... Liking what you drive might be worth it to some people. Now that winter is approaching, I will be commuting in our old expedition more often as it handles whatever snow issues may come with ease. Lots of reasons people buy these vehicles. If I could get away with a compact I would but life and sometimes road conditions don't always cooperate. It'll be okay. Just protect yourself and you'll be happier for it.
