Mazda to recall nearly all RX-8s

Mazda will recall all 2004, 2005, and many 2006 model year RX-8 sports cars to address an issue with the vehicle's unique rotary engine, according to trade publication Automotive News. The automaker is expected to officially announced the voluntary recall some time this week. Many engines will need to be replaced, according to the report. The move comes after the Japanese automaker came under fire from consumers over a number of serious problems with the engine. The issue involves damage to the catalyst resulting from oil leaks. Any engine that does not pass a vacuum test must be replaced.

It is revolutionary..(best engine made, especially for racing)
not all the engines will be replaced, just the ones that loose compression, (trust me it is not as bad as it sounds). They are great engines and Mazda is doing the right thing.

Not really, it actually proves that the rotory is inferior to the piston. Especially if you consider fuel economy.

lexusis350, you don't know what youre talking about.

I owned a brand new 1981 Mazda RX7 and 3 years later the engine blew up and Ford didn't have anything to do with the RX7.

I personally hate the RX8, why is it everybody that drives one wants to race? I swear everytime I'm driving somebody in one of those things pulls up and wants to race, it's irritating. Not to mention they are ugly. Without the elongated door in the rear it might look decent at best, but I still have little respect for the car.

The last gen is a different story though......I still love the RX-7.

I owned a 1984 RX7 and sold it with 248,000 miles on it. Never had a lick of problems AT ALL with it. In the Owner's Manual it said to check the level of the engine oil. That is because the rot-engine used a little bit of oil (designed to then) when starting. However most poeple didn't check their oil levels and ran the engine oil levels too low.

Yeah with Ford gooing down like the Titanic, one has to wonder why they "partnered" up with FoMoCo???

Damn! I traded too soon... got rid of the RX-8 which I thought was neat but underpowered and a big time gas guzzler. I got 21mpg once on the highway, but mostly 15-17mpg. My Z4 3.0 is faster and gives me 29-30 in less aggressive driving. Ok, it doesn't have 4 seats, but I never really needed them anyway.
