Motor Trend Calls Lexus Deviant Concept Winning Design Then Slams It. What Is YOUR Verdict?
hile it's no easy task to select the top 3 finalists from over 600 art contest entries, it certainly isn't easy to put together a car in just 10 short weeks from scratch. There seems to be a bit of confusion from the Motor Trend camp as Nate Martinez, associate editor help picked the winning design, but Mike Floyd, Senior Digital Content Director slams it.

From an artistic standpoint, this car is pretty amazing in a sense that one artist (Rob Evans) conception has been transformed into a live object. The builder VIP Auto Salon had only 10 weeks to complete the project from start to finish. All exterior pieces had to be built from scratch and the wheels were milled just in the nick of time. I give a lot of credit to the builder for taking on this arduous task being that they only had two renderings to work off of. As you can see from the renderings, they did a pretty good job of getting it very close without losing the overall look and feel of the concept.

I've never seen a more attractive vehicle in my life.

the flared fenders are WAY TOO MUCH, beyond tasteful, sorry... I usually like that kind of aggression in body work, this is a fail though imo

Ugly as sin. Starting with the unattractive Lexus grill, to the cheap-looking and poorly conceived bolt-on tupperware, it looks like a bad idea gone still worse.

I believe the ridiculous, over-the-top bodywork was intended to draw attention away from horrific grill and headlight treatment, so in that sense it was "successful" (as long as success is determined by whoever can produce the most disgusting vehicle).

Illustrates how utterly pointless SEMA is...

That's ghastly. I try to not be so judgmental, but if anyone at Motor Trend ever called that a "winning" design, it tells you that whatever's in the Kool-Aide they drink over there, I'd avoid it.

Awww my eyes, from ugly to hideous in 10 weeks. "Great job".
